| Mine has to be the indie label "SARAH records"
Everynow and then Sarah release a set of really good 7" E.P.'s.
3 tracks for a pound and available only by mail order. You get a
free poster with each E.P.
Everything about Sarah seems really uncorrupt, they are exactly
the opposite to RCA or EMI...somehow it seems they are not really
bothered about how many records they sell, they seem to do it cos
they enjoy it. Everything about SARAH seems so pure. Their groups
sing innocent indie pop with a 60's type sound, some are poor, some
are average and some are really good!

My favourite record label is definatly "Probe plus" for giving us
Half man Half Biscuit.
I wrote to probe plus for info on the group. I did not even send
them a S.A.E. but they wrote back in a week, and sent me masses
of photocopied info from live reviews in NME and the rest. Even
wrote me a letter too, telling me of future plans.
Good pr is what I call it.

growing up with these groups/songs and identifying with some of the

| re: 11
According the liner notes on a Ralph records compolation album called
"Frank Johnsons favorites", The songs were compiled by The new and
feared Ralph Records computer thats named "Frank Johnson". The notes
go on to say that the songs it came up with are on the album, plus it
came up with several songs that nobody has heard of yet, the liner
notes said "Its just like Frank to predict the future". It is a very
interesting album. The Residents do the beatles "Flying" in 3/4 time.
There's a great song by Snakefinger on there called "From womb to worm"
and another one i cant remember by Relando and the Loaf.

on it (Dylan, Springsteen, Billy Joel - OK, so I've developed a lot); or
Reprise (Cooder, Mitchell, Little Feat - so I had a *sensitive* phase); but
you just can't get excited about big companies.
So it's the indies: of which my faves are:
Cooking Vinyl (Michelle Shocked, Cowboy Junkies, + some real *dogs*)
Hannibal (Richard Thompson + some real strange albums)
Charly (R'n'B reissues)
Demon (reissues, Elvis C)
You get the feeling that these are run by guys who really love the
music, which is, I guess, why they release great records.

I think it's still relatively easier to enjoy new vinyl in the
UK than the states but anyhow I was pleased to pick up an import
of Rough Trades new single of the month club in the spirit of the
'ole Sub Pop tradition as mentioned in their liner notes.
The first single is Levitation's "Squirrel" b/w "It's Time" both
of which are also on their Capitol release "Coterie", apparently
a CD-only release. Being the vinyl lover that I am I picked up
one of each!

Hi Scott,
Just the distribution side of the business went under. Rough Trade records
and the two (?) stores as far as I know are in full swing. I believe
Revolver and others are distributing some of their records.
Good cause #9: "The Historial Debt" mentioned in rad_rad under

Thanks, Dougie.
Speaking of Philips...I was going to mention some where else
possibly the UK_MUSIC label note...but...
I thought Fontana vanished out some years ago but now bands like
James, Catherine Wheel if I recall, etc. are on them. It was
nice to see the Fontana singles re-issue a while back. Also, I
enjoy looking at the "25 Years Ago" chart toppers in NME, Record
Collector, etc. Usually it's someone on Fontana, Pye, Immediate,
DECCA, etc.
As for Immediate the Sony Special Products has in the past released
three volumes - The Immediate Story singles collection and one can't
help but notice how the logo looks nearly like the 'ole Immediate one
(not much of a logo really just the name but..).
Also, another label I'm unfamiliar with recently released an
anthology (is the 3 record immediate compilation I keep seeing
references on?) with the likes of Amen Corner, Small Faces, Nico's
"I'm Not Saying", Chris Farlow, The Turtles, John Mayall, the
Arnabee Pop Symphony - (Keef Richards or was this really an
Oldham project) recently released on I forget probably Sony...,
the Nice, etc. on Domo. Likewise RPM is one I've recently been
seeing but don't know...Joe Meek (I knew he had killed himself but
I just recently found out it was after killing his landlady) has
some interesting re-issues.
Maybe I'll get around to one of the related label / re-issue notes
to discuss labels like Sequel, See For Miles, Charly, etc.
BTW, nothing should be taboo here but I know what you mean.
Other labels of interest of mine:
Liberty
Pye - forget who spawned by (or the other way around)
Deram
Decca
Immediate - Andrew Loog Oldham...
Rak - Micky Most label, if memory...
etc.
I'll go where I belong with this, sorry for any break in our regularly
scheduled programming.

| (I'm going to regret this, I know . . .)
One of the earliest records out on Deram (a Decca subsidiary I think) was The
Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed. The Moodies had basically gone down the
plughole after Go Now and Denny Laine left, when the reformed band, now led by
Justin Hayward were invited to make a record to plug The Deramic Sound System
(!!). So " Nights in White satin" was born and so was Seventies 'Rock'!

Yes, Deram was associated with Decca as were Ace of Clubs, Ace of

While on it..RAK - Mickie Most's label.
