488.0. "Jesus&Mary Chain, where?" by SUBURB::COLEJ (sitting on a DEC chair) Thu Aug 31 1989 15:42

Well, will someone please inform me of the Jesus and Mary Chain
movements, as no one seems to have heard of them since sidewalking.

No stories of a split! Nothing! I think they have dissapeared of
the face of the earth. Can someone inform me.

Also, do they deserve a topic of their own for discussion.

All Mary chain fans sign here please!

    The mighty Chain!!!!!

There is a new single out - sept 11 I think, and an lp due in October.
There is a lso a little tour, they are playing at the Brixton
Academy, which I think is the closest to Reading that they go.
    (but I won't go there).

    Stay tuned for more fuzz.

Errrrr, can't remember the dates. I know the London Show is Brixton
Academy, so you can probably get thier box office no., or the usual
    london rip-off agencies.
I'd love to see them, but I hate the Academy.

    Mike.

and everything turns up next day on the telly.

Anyway, single is called Blues from a Gun, album is called Automatic.
Tour starts end of October, comming south. Not sure of the dates

Picked up the new album Automatic this morning. Hmmm. A bit of
a let down somehow. The tracks all carry on in a Sidewalking/Blues
from type of vein. Big drums, heavy fuzzies. Somehow it sounds
very clean and antiseptic. There is none of the mood of darklands
( no 9 milion days here). I can imagine it being played in cars
whilst driving along californian freeways, it has that sort of FM
feel to it. Some of the vocals even sound like Billy Idol. Perhaps
it will grow, its not a bad album by any means, but I expect more
from these boys, they mean so much...

Wow, the review for Automatic in sounds has to be read to be believed.

it in or does it knack copyrights ?
Would anyone LIKE me to type it in ?

488.8Gimme Something To Shout AboutAYOV16::LGRAYTue Oct 17 1989 09:3511

Well Mike I heard Automatic yesterday and I LOVED IT!!!!!!! Ok! so it
ain't got so much "edge" as Darklands but it still kicks ass. To me
it's a mixture of the Sidewalking rawness and the more structured
Darklands sound. I dunno I've only heard it the once but I can't wait
till I get home to spin it again. To me a definate "I must buy" album.

Got an innaresting Mary Chain CD recently, `The Sound of Speed'. Jap Import.
Contains 17 tracks, only a few of which I have heard before.

Full track listing:

Reverence (Radio Mix)
Teenage Lust (Acoutic Version)
Don't Come Down
Heat
Guitarman (from NME Elvis tribute, `Last Temptation of Elvis')
Why'd you want me
Sometimes
Shimmer
Penetration (No, not the stooges song)
My Girl (yes, really)
Subway
In the Black
Break me Down
Terminal Beach
Deviant Slice
I'm glad I never
Sidewalking (Extended Version)

It's Fab, and essential for any Mary Chain fiends. Most of the tracks have the
same kind of sound as found on the equally wonderful `Honey's Dead' Album. Be
prepared to pay serious moolah for it though.
