459.0. "Cemetery Studios" by CHEFS::DALLISON (Its Katching !) Tue Jul 11 1989 10:03

Any bands ever use Reading's Cemetery Studios ? My band used it for
the first time last night and I have mixed feelings about them.

Anybody else out there use them ?

I used to manage a band (Blindman's Rainbow)who use Cemetery
Studios/The Cell. The equipment is pretty old but you have to remember
that the studio is only just a year old and as such they are still
trying to get the revenue to buy more stuff and fit the studios
    out.

One of the best things is the friendly atmosphere. I always found
that Danny would go out of his way to help you and shows an interest
in the bands that play there.

Another thing ; a lot of good or fairly successful bands have come
out of Cemetery (International Resque being one)

To put it briefly, stick with them and they'll be good to you.

    Paul.

Well, the studio we rented was :-

    a> quite small,
    b> VERY hot and
    c> very dark.

The size was not that important - its just nice to have a bit of
space - I dunno, maybe its me just being picky! They did compensate
the heat factor but supplying a huge fan in there - but the drummer
hogged it 8^) and even with the fan it was still VERY hot (no windows).
It was also pretty dark, but we're all ugly mugs anyway so it didn't
    matter too much ;^).

The equipment was okay for our needs - they had an 80Watt Trace
Elliot bass combo, a 75Watt Session combo, a Juggs (the drummer
HATED it!!) drum kit and a ???Watt PA system with a 4x12 cab. Its
good to have the gear included coz I couldn't have got my speaker
    cabs up the stairs !

I will keep with them - they are helpful and very friendly.

Any more experiences ? I know Pete Goodwins band uses them frequently.
    Any opinions Pete ?

    Cheers,

    Tony,

Try using one the rooms downstairs. They tend to be a bit cooler
and the one right at the end of the corridor is quite large as well.
You tend to get a better sound as well because theres less vibration.

The big room costs a bit more but being an employee of Digital you
shouldn't have to worry about it !

P.S. Get as friendly with Danny as you can. He's a good bloke and
will do you alot of favours.

    Paul.

Hi
    Re -2-

We use studio 1 and it's pretty good in their for the dosh!! only
one grummble is that the drum kits are abit basic but in that studio
it is better than the rest what can you expect from only #6 a hour!!!!
The thing I like about the set up is that you have friendly people
and you can make as much noise as you like (which is totally brill).

    Cheers
    Pete (Drummer for Rough Cut)

ps Tony have you had another sess yet??
