First of all, CONGRATULATIONS Mazzer - hope all goes well.
Having been thought the whole [ordeal] - sorry -event, I can relate
that my wife not only lost her sense of humour, but her appreciation
of music also.
When she was in her latter stages of labour, a Billy Joel concert
was on TV and a very kind midwife, probably in an attempt to calm
me down, wheeled a portable tv into the delivery room.
"Listen" I'd say to Liz, "he's playing ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG now".
She responded with a few grunts and groans and a look that said
"I couldn't give two ***** who's playing what"
I was only trying to help.
Seriously though, I'd recommend some James Taylor for the earlier
stages of labour, and then some Meatloaf when the pace picks up
a bit!
Ok, Ok, maybe not that serious!
Good luck anyway,
Michael

| First off, YIPPEEEE!!!! A little Mazzer to join our fold !! :-)
Now, not having been through this myself, some of these guys
*will* definately know more about this than I would, but...
is it possible, in the early stages of labour, might a *story*
tape take your mind off the pains?? You know, some (classic)
book that you've always wanted to read, something you could
'get lost in'.
Once things really get going.... I don't think it much matters,
does it?! :-)
Good luck, Mazzer... can we all be god-parents?

A story tape is a great idea, but be careful you don't pick anything too
exciting or shocking - I've got the story of Star Wars on record, but I
think the sound of all those lasers and light sabres might have an
undesired effect :-)
Meanwhile on the records, how about
"Labour of love" by Hue and Cry (intentional pun) ??

Your wife will hate my songs so much she will forget about the baby!

Well I knew I could rely on you lot!:-):-)
Thanks for all the *helpful* suggestions, such a wide and varied
range of musical tastes - but i must admit the one that made me
nearly go into early labour was 'Push it ' by Salt n Pepa!!
Mike O'Hagan - knew I could rely on your witty sense of humour!
Mike Donnelly - Hope you got my reply to your message!? but thanks
anyway - no you haven't put me off! yet!!
Sue and everyone else - Thanks very much for all your good wishes
and yes you can all be *honorary* god parents.
With friends like you lot the baby will
be in good company.
Anyway enough of that, feel free to keep the suggestions coming
and nearer my leaving date if any of you are around or near HHL
pop in for a wee dram or two.
See ya

| Hey Mazzer,
Are you coming back to work after the baby's born? (Here most
women do, after a 2-3 month stay at home) If so, will you be
back in September? I'm hoping to get over for a month round
then, maybe we could get together?
Sue

| Hi Sue,
Providing all goes well!! I will be coming back approx April 1990
- the baby is due September 1st. Over here the maternity leave
is 29 weeks after the baby is born!!
Perhaps I can give you my home telephone number and address and
we could still meet up when you come over in September?? Better
stop this conversation (getting too personal) - here comes the mod!?!
Mail me on All-in-1 - Mary Fell @HHL to continue this discussion.

Had a good lunch - more than I should have!! but after
8 years its hard to say goodbye!
I shall miss you all and I have really enjoyed noting on
the music file - I will make sure that someone from London
lets you know the outcome.
Thanks for all your suggestions for 'Music for Labour' I still
haven't decided what I'm gonna have but there you go - when did
a pregnant woman ever know what she was gonna do!!!!
Anyway - many thanks for the good wishes - love to you all
See you in 1990.

419.23 | HELLO HELLO I'M BACK AGAIN....... | YUPPY::FELLM | | Wed May 16 1990 10:44 | 15 |
| Well hello there! Yes I have returned and have a lot of
catching up to do in this file.
Slightly off the music subject - I had a little boy called
Tommy on September 20th and as was suggested by a few of
you noters, Music was the last thing on my mind when 'the push
come to shove'. Anyway will catch up with you later on.
Since leaving you last year I have been to see Simply Red,
Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, UB40 and have tickets for
Prince in June.
Its nice to be back.

Where and when did you see Simple Minds? And...more importantly...
what types of music does Tommy like? I hope you're exposing his
young, impressionable mind to *only* the right stuff :-)

| Thanks to everyone for your good wishes etc....
Sue, I saw simple minds at Wembley Arena in Jul or Aug last
year - can't remember exact date (thats what being pregnant
does to you) but I must admit I wasn't that impressed! I found
them very boring - they never seemed to get going. Oh I admit
their diehard fans were screaming and shouting and whistling
all the time they were on stage but I was patiently waiting for
the big climax and I'm afraid it never came!! They played all
their oldies but concentrated on the new album the one containing
Belfast Child and I'm sorry but I think its very depressing.
Their encore was a song I'd never heard of but then I'm not a
committed fan anyway at least I can say I've seen them but I
doubt if I'd bother again.
As for my sons taste in Music he's very partial to Roachfords
Album and his favourite single (although outdated now) is
Dub Be Good To Me - Beats International. His favourite telly
music is 'Home and Away' - everything stops for this!!!
Getting back on the concert front - went to see UB40 at Brixton
Academy in March and really enjoyed the band! What a great venue!
Always been a bit apprehensive about Brixton Academy but its so
heavily policed it must be one of the safest venues around.
Unfortunately my apprehension proved to be somewhat right when
after leaving the concert my other half was knocked down by a hit
and run driver who drove over the pedestrian island my husband was
standing on! Apart from that the concert was brilliant the only
trouble was UB40 have written so many good songs that there's never
enough time for them to get through even a quarter of them. They
were on stage for a good 2 hours and when it finished I was still
left wanting more.
Anyway must go now - speak to you all soon.
Mazzer_Lady_with_the_hubby_on_crutches!!!
P.S. Mr Moderator sorry if this should have gone in concert reviews
- please feel free to relocate if necessary.
