413.0. "Heron" by WELMTS::GREENB (Bob and Kim take on the world) Wed May 03 1989 11:49
Another obscure late sixties/early seventies band reforms shock
horror.
Can anyone tell me anything about Heron. I was browsing in the record
shop yesterday and found a compilation lp by Heron, and reading
through the sleeve notes, I found many interesting facts. For instance,
one of their guitarists later went on to front G.T. Moore and the
Reggae Guitars!!! Also, apparently they have reformed - quite a
few obscure bands from this era seem to be doing this, but I think
Heron is probably the most obscure so far! They were also one of
the four bands on the Dawn Records 'Penny Tour', so called because
admission to these gigs was one new penny. The other three bands
were Titus Groan, Demon Fuzz, and (?) Comus (some memory, huh? I
didn't get that off the sleeve!)
Originally, like Traffic, they were one of those bands who 'got
it together in the country', living and working under the same roof,
and recording in fields, etc ("all the birdsong on our records is
real, man")
Now the question I'd like to ask, after all that rambling, is what
did they actually *sound* like?
Bob
