339.0. "Ruthless blues, After dark club Sat 11th Feb" by MARVIN::HEALEY (Brendan Healey, PSI-PSG/WACE) Thu Feb 09 1989 12:44

Ruthless Blues + support are playing at the After Dark club (formerly
carribean/paradise) on London street Reading on Saturday 11th Feb. I
think it's 3.50 to get in, and they don't say what time Ruthless are
playing, but they don't usually start until late, ie. after the pubs
have shut. As previous notes in this conference will confirm, they're
a very good band so don't miss it!. The turks head just round the
corner is a good place to start the evening off beforehand.

Brendan.

Wonder if they're still palyin' the old Purple classic "Wring That
Neck"? They're good so don't miss 'em.

Ruthless blues - tell me more! Are they local to Reading, or do
they venture as far as London? They sound kinda interesting....

They play mostly in London. The mean fiddler, Cricketers at the oval and
Torrington on the black horse road are a few recent venues. When in the
Reading area you can usually catch them at the After Dark club and the
Bridge in Bracknell. London gigs are always listed in Time out. John
Knightsbridge formerly (much formerly) with the Yardbirds plays Lead, and
I don't know what their names are, but watch out for the sax and harmonica
players.

I don't know what their names are, but watch out for the sax and harmonica
   players.

Little Stevie Smith - use to play with Bad Manners.

The mainstay of the band was the bass player, who left - he had
a really dry sense of humour. The drummer has played with Rick
    Wakeman, I believe.

    David.

Thanks Dave - see what happens when I don't come in here for a couple
of days? Tonight, unfortunately, is out, but I would have gone to
the Torrington, it being only about 20 mins away. I used to frequent
the place a lot 'back in the old days', when pub-rock was going
    to save the universe.

    Maybe next time 8^)

Used to see them at the "Owl and the Pussycat", Redchurch St.,
Shoreditch quite often. They had a residency there every Thursday
night, alas a change of landlord has seen the end of that, yet another
live music venue bites the dust!

                              Jules.

Anyone any more dates on Ruthless Blues for around Augustish maybe?

Feeling nostalgic after finding the old Angies gig guide and want to
see the band I grew up on....
