Sylvian released a rather good album last year, `Secrets of the
Beehive' which you seem to have missed.

In about '78 or '79 Japan had an album out called 'Adolescent Sex' which
isn't on your list. Perhaps it was released under a different name in
the States, if at all.
Without knowing too much about them I'd say that the Japan of the late
seventies was punk and *very* different from the Japan of the 'Tin Drum'
era.
I saw Japan supporting Blue Oyster Cult in April '78. The vocalist
introduced themselves by saying: "I know we're crap, but can you bear
with us?". One guy down the front was enjoying himself so much, so
three bouncers threw him out!

I share your enthusiasm for both David Sylvian and Riuichi Sakamoto.
There is an E.P. with the two of them called, Bamboo Houses. I
would also recommend Sakamoto's solo efforts. Regarding YMO, I
also follow the solo work of Yukihiro Takahashi, who was the lead
singer for that group. It seems that Sakamoto has a speech impediment
that restricts his singing. Only the song Thatness and Thereness
off the B-2 Unit album do you hear him sing.
Since much of YMO and Sakamoto/Takahashi works are imports they
can be very hard to find. Sakamoto's last album was on SONY/CBS
which may mean his music will be more accessible.
I have more information about these artist and friends if there
is interest.

I used to be a huge Japan/Sylvian fan, is this a new album?
I can't remember the names of his other albums.

You have a dangerous name. I wouldn't step foot in LA, you might get
mobbed. @%-)

| Can't remember whether this has been reported before, but I see
David Sylvian and Robert Fripp have brought a new LP out called
"The First Day". Apparently it's recommended however judging by the
picture of David on the front cover (I assume that IS the adonis
himself?) I wouldn't recommend him anymore in the swoon stakes
- he's a right ugly git now.

Yeah, I was noticing how bad all the members of Duran Duran look these
days. It seems like they lost their only asset: looks.

| It was mainly Davie talking about his collaboration with Fripp, with
musical excerpts. Not much to it really.
I often listen to Gary Crowley on GLR, but I don't know if I can take
watching him again. Why can't he keep blummen still? Is he hyperactive
or something??? Git.

| I Picked up the new Sylvian/Fripp over the weekend.
It's somewhere between "good" and "very good", but not really the
grabber I had hoped for after waiting 2 years since Rain Tree Crow.
You can definately pick out the two different writing styles in
each song (Fripp vs Sylvian).
Fripp still seems a little too "self indulgant" for my tastes.
