| | MAGMA are still going - well Christian Vander is. They played Nice last
week and are sort-of touring. I'll check if they have any new music
    available.

| | Cor, Magma, I'd forgotten how much I used to like them...

I saw them a few times, many years ago, at the Roundhouse (still
my all-time favourite venue) in Chalk Farm, and they were utterly
stupendous - such a feeling of power came from the stage, and the
music was totally hypnotic. The only drawback was that they had
to restrict themselves to a set length of about two hours; apparently
it was not unknown for them to play sets for up to nine or ten hours!

The albums I had from this period were (spelling is probably all
over the place here) Kohntarkosz, and Mechanik Destructiv Kommandoh.
There was also another one called (I think) 1000 degrees C. I did
find, though, that their rcords were not as rewarding as seeing
    them live.

Is Jannik Top still with them - that man's bass playing was awesome
    in the extreme

BTW, Steve 'Interesting' Davis, world's number one snooker player,
is said to be a big Magma fan

| 335.3 | definitely powerful!!! | KAOFS::C_MENENDEZ | Carlos, Kanata CSC, DTN 621-3051 | Wed Feb 08 1989 13:37 | 11 |
| | There's many more records. i'll try to put up a list of what
    I have tonight.

The problem when I was living in Mexico was that (of course
they never toured over there!) their records always seemed to be
kinda like "pirate" records. Different labels all the time, very,
    very low quantities available, etc.

I'm looking forward to see that they're still recording.

    	Carlos

| | Well, as I promised, here are the records I know of (well, the
    ones I have):

    	a) MAGMA PHILIPS IMPORT
    	b) Kohntarkosz PHILIPS/A&M IMPORT
    	c) 1001 *C PHILIPS IMPORT
    	d) MEKANIK DESTRUKTIW KOMMANDOH A&M
    	e) MAGMA LIVE TOMATO
    	f) ATTAHK TOMATO
    	g) UDU WUDU TOMATO
    	h) INDEITS PHILIPS???
    	i) RETROSPECTIVE I, II, III RCA (FRENCH LABEL)

There is also the famous soundtrack from TRISTAN E ISOLDE by
Christian Vander alone, although his group plays entirely there.

I don't know about the records overseas, but the american versions
(A&M, TOMATO) include very interesting notes about the group
incarnation and some explanations as for why they sing in Kobaian,
    etc.)

If they're still touring, I would expect new albums. I'll be
    hearing. Thanks all.

    	Carlos

I saw them about 10 years ago at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester,
England - great live set, and I also remember the amazing bass player.

I've got 1001 degress C, but I agree that their live set tops anything
on vinyl. John Peel played stuff from "Mekanik ..." when it came
out - I have very old recordings of these particular shows!!!

Steve Davis actually promoted their gigs last year, and this year
    - "Very Interesting Promotions" I believe is the name.

| | The amazing bass player - was he huge, and completely bald? If so,
    that's Jannik Top who was with them when I saw them about }gulp{

This Steve Davis connection is well odd, isn't it?
