333.0. "The Christians" by KERNEL::JWILLIAMS () Thu Feb 02 1989 12:32

I've searched through the directory for this but can't seem to find
any titles on it. Apologies if it is under some obscure name.

Anyway, I just want to sing the praises of the Christians. I recently
borrowed a tape off a friend, was impressed by it, and consequently,
am now playing it all the time. I don't know how many albums they
have brought out or if this is the only one (it has all their hits
on it) but it is bloody brilliant.

And the lead singer is so cute with his shiny bald head.......

I can honestly say that out of every single the christians have
released, there has not been one that I disliked. They are exellent.
The cover of "Haverest For The World" is very good too. Is that
    on their album ?

I have the album on tape - it's well worth buying.

I believe it's simply called "the Christians" and it's their first
and only album - but I'm open to correction on both points.

Unfortunately, it doesn't contain 'harvest for the world', but has
all previous hits - Forgotten Town, Hooverville, Born Again and
I can't remember the other one.

333.3Michael, this is a must for future CD purchase ;-)AYOV28::DROBBBehind the big casino on the beachThu Feb 02 1989 13:045
Other hits from their (debut) album were IDEAL WORLD and WHEN THE
FINGERS POINT - a fine set altogether, and apparently the
biggest-selling debut album in Island Records' history.

Yep I must agree with everything so far - The Christians
album is great - really good value - everyones a winner!!

Re their version of Harvest For The World its not bad...but
you can't beat the original by the Isley Bros.

Good group, good record - any chance of another, chaps?
Or even, dare I say it, a tour.....?

It wasn't until they covered an Isleys song that I realised where
their influences lay in the vocal department - I love it, though,
and it's got me to drag out some old Isleys stuff again.

Wasn't their first single Hooverville? I've got a feeling that one
didn't make much impression on the charts, it was .....aaaargh,
the name's gone right out of my head! You know, the opening track
on the lp. Gnnnnnnhhh! What's it called? I could sing it through
    as well!

    Grrrr

333.6This must be one ....CHEFS::EDINBOROUGHSYou hum it, I'll play it !Mon Feb 06 1989 12:5410

There first single was "Forgotten Town" and got to about #29 in
the charts. Next came "Hooverville" (I think), followed by "When
the fingers point". "Ideal world" was then released and I think
has been there most successfull record to date.
I bought the album on the day it was released and rank it quite
high in my record collection, though I must say I did not like
    "Harvest for the world" !

333.8Definately a 'no-win' situation for The ChristiansAYOV28::DROBBAngular banjos sound good to meWed Feb 15 1989 09:287
Re. .6 - I heard the Isleys (original) version of HARVEST FOR THE
WORLD on the radio this morning, and this is one song that should
have been left alone in the 'classics of all time' field. Pity
that it was The Christians who had to fail in an attempt to do a
decent cover - let's hope that they'll redeem themselves with their
next release (they are apparently recording their follow-up single
    and album at the moment).

Hello. I'd just like to add my bit by saying that I think the
Christians are absolutely brill, and the album "The Christians"
is probably the only album in my collection which I can listen to
continuously without ever getting bored. (It was also my most
treasured possesion when I was recently in America!!)

I saw the last (?) video of The Christians the other day on MTV and
wondered WHERE this video has been "shot". I think the song was called
"Colors" and the album was called "Words" or vice versa. The countryside
looked really nice, seemed to be somewhere in Ireland or in the Highlands.

Does anybody know it exactly ?
