302.0. "GUNS & ROSES" by NHL::COOK (Tube Snake Boogie...) Wed Dec 21 1988 16:42

I was wondering if Guns & Roses is popular at all in England.
They are fast becoming a legend in America, and I have really
started to enjoy their music a lot.

So, for all you fans, here's the Guns & Roses note...

Has anyone heard news of recording going on for a new album??? I
know they just came out with Lies, but it's only live versions of
    old songs...

Angela,

Haven't you been in the Heavy_Metal notesfile before? There is a topic
on Guns & Roses in there that has about 200 replies! (But they won't
let you discuss Pink Floyd there, so its not perfect....)

So, I'll repeat her question just for the hell of it - is Guns and
Roses making a big splash over there?

Alan S.

    Sorry for the confusion Angela!!!

Anyway - In the UK charts their two singles (Sweet child o' mine
and Welcome to the jungle) have done quite well for an unknown metal
band. Both made it easily into the top 25 (ish) and their albums
are also doing well in the charts. Quite good considering they
get very little air play on radios, and on our TV shows.

The only pain is they have (to my knowledge) only played here twice:
Once at the old Marquee, the other at Castle Donnington 1988 (where
two fans were crushed during GnR's set).

I only hope the the Gunners are alive long enough to write a follow
up album of the same quality as "Appetite For Destruction".

They have only had out two albums and one EP ("Live...!"#$ like a
    suicide").

"Lies" is good. The first side has all the tracks from the "live.."
EP and the second side is all new acoustic stuff. Its good - I
    recomend it.

    There's also some imports.

                                        door & whole lotta rosie)
IT'S SO EASY - german. Four track 12"

    And some bootlegs:-

    	Live at donnington L.P.

    	  " Nurenberg Cass.

    	  " New York Ritz Cass.

" New York (something I can't remember) Cass.

Anyway they're all quite easy to get hold of.

    Sweet Child o' mine
    Its so easy
    Whole lotta Rosie (live)
two more (I think "Mama Kin" and "Move to the city").

I also have a bootleg GnR video of them at the Ritz NYC.

> Could anybody please tell me who or what Mr Brownstone is.

Mr. Brownstone = heroin

(Yes, the song is about heroin addiction. The members of GnR have publicly
admitted to being heroin addicts in the past, and still continue to use the
drug occassionally.)

"I used to do a little, but a little wouldn't do it,
So the little go more and more.
Just keep trying to get a little better,
Just a little better than before."

Does those lines make more sense now?

Alan S.
302.19Confused ?? 8^)CHEFS::DALLISONStepping on the little people...Wed May 03 1989 12:5911

Ditto on what Alan said, but as for how mny versions of "You're
Crazy" there are - well, I only know of three studio recorded versions
(one on Appetite for Destruction, one on Lies and one on the B-side
of the 12" of Welcome to the jungle). There are countless live
recordings (I have two live recordings and a video of it). So if
you count live recordings too - that makes at least six. But if
live recordings *do* count, there are loads of bootlegs about so
you could never really count them

RUMOUR HAS IT THAT THEY ARE TO TOUR EUROPE IN 1990 AROUND FEBRUARY.THEY
ARE ALSO SUPPOSED TO PLAY DONNINGTON NEXT YEAR AND AN ALBUM IS RUMOURED
TO BE RELEASED BUT SEEING AS THEY HAVENT STARTED RECORDING YET THAT
    LOOKS DOUBTFUL. CROCKS.

If GnR spent as much time writing material as they do shooting
herion then we wouldn't have to wait 3 years for the next release.

    In my opinion of course.

302.32Sympathy for the DevilWOTVAX::CLEASBYIFri Sep 06 1996 13:5511
I saw "Interview with a Vampire" the other night, and liked the GnR
version of "Sympathy for the Devil" and, although I know nothing of GnR
and don't particularly like American heavy metal, I looked for a GnR
album containing this track. All I could find was the film soundtrack
CD, most of which is classical and doesn't interest me. Anyone know if
there is a GnR album with this track on it ? A previous note refered
to this version as "crap" - does that mean it is different from other
GnR stuff & if I like "Sympathy" I probably won't like any of their
other stuff, in which case I might as well get the film soundtrack ?
