297.1 | FELT - are they Scottish? | HYEND::SCHILTON | Sue Chilton dtn 297-5154 | Thu Dec 15 1988 17:55 | 5 |
| I've got a track called "Primitive Painters" on a compilation tape
that a friend gave me. On another comp tape I've got a track by
them called "A Preacher in New England" which is absolutely beautiful.
Sorry, don't know anything about them though.

| For anyone who likes the Cocteau Twins, the previously-mentioned
"Primitive Painters" is a must-get track, first because it's brilliant,
and second because Liz Fraser sings on it. It is/was available as
a 12" single.
Felt have been around since about 1980, and have been very prolific,
with nine LPs (approx) released. The driving force is Laurence Felt
but I don't think he's Scottish.
I've got one lp, "Poem of the River", judging by which I'd describe
them as an arty guitar band. I haven't heard the other lps so can't
recommend a particular album to get to know them by.

A quick note from a fellow FELT fan to let you know they hail from
Birmingham. I have seen them live once and look forward to doing
so again. They like to give every song/album an arty title therefore
i can't recall any of the titles right now.
I shall try and get a hold of album titles and maybe even a
discography.

i've never heard space blues but i am reliably
informed that there best songs are better than space blues. i'll
have to make a point of getting a hold of 'space blues' as it is
obviously highly recommended.
hope you get a hold of some of FELT 'S
brilliant albums

297.6 | I've been felt too | SQGUK::NOCK | I'LL have a Babycham | Thu Mar 30 1989 18:04 | 17 |
| I've got "Strange Idols...etc,etc" which I got after seeing them
live for 20pence (see also New Model Army!!!). I'm not mad keen
on them but I quite like the LP.
The performance they gave was memorable, although not necessarily
for the music! They played for about 30 mins, when most people did
1hr plus encores at this particular venue. Not only that, they played
with their backs to the audience, didn't speak other than to introduce
the songs or actually sing and refused to do any encores. I thought
it was excellent, but a lot of people were moanning about "value
for money",etc.
Personally I go to Sainsbury's for value for money and it's not
something I ever associate with music, one piece of great music
has no value (erm... I mean can't be valued...)
