Dunno 'bout anyone who sounds like DcD, but you might give
a listen to a couple of albums by 'This Mortal Coil', who
are a mishmash of artists from the 4AD label (Cocteau Twins,
Dead can Dance, Xmal Deutschland and others) the first was
called 'It'll end in Tears' can't remember the name of the
second (double album) but they are both excellent stuff.

Everybody on the 4AD label sounds the same :-) so try them.
Actually, 4AD put out a number of compilations over the
years. I'd start there...Ed

Try `Les Mysteres Des Voix Bulgares, Vol 1-2'. Excellent Choir like
music. 4AD, once again.

| REF.1 It'll end in tears is the 4AD compilation mentioned in .2
The extremely good double album by This Mortal Coil is "Filigree
and Shadow". Also at least one 12" "The Sound of the Siren".
You can't realy go wrong with any 4AD band as far as I'm concerned
but the best in my opinion are
This Mortal Coil
Colourbox
The Cocteau Twins
I can give you more info tomorrow if you wish

| Mr. 4 AD,
Thanks for your response! Any additional Dead can Dance, ect. info
would be appreciated. Apart from the DcD theme, have you heard
any new bands worth listening to? What are The Wild Flowers like?
Cheers!

294.6 | Life back into the Dead conference ?? | MIACT::RANKINE | | Tue Jan 22 1991 11:35 | 15 |
| Late into this conference....
Ive got all the DCD stuff, and prefer the 'Spleen & Ideal' era.
The most recent album Aion (spelling ??) is a progression started by
the Serpent Egg into more historic music.
Saw them live in Nottingham recently, I have never been at a concert
where the sound quality was so superb...they really are perfectionists.
Lisa seems to have become very aloof from the audince from previous DCD
concerts that I have attended. To hear her sing solo on some of the
tracks whils having a single light shine on her, in an acoustically
perfect setting (Albert Hall, Nottingham) was a hair-standing-up on the
back of the neck experience
Cheers

294.7 | Where from ? | KERNEL::HOGGAND | | Tue Nov 23 1993 12:47 | 10 |
| Does anyone know when DCD originate from. I'm sure that I heard they
were an Austrailian group, but my girlfriend swears blind that the are
Irish.
Can anyone clear this up?
Dave.
PS: Their latest album (Labyrinth ?) is sublime!

294.8 | two different bands | LARVAE::IVES_J | One i-node short of a file system | Tue Nov 23 1993 14:22 | 15 |
| I have a feeling that there are 2 bands with the same name ' Into the
labyrinth' is by the DCD on the 4AD label, who have also contributed to
some of the 'This Mortal Coil' albums. Previous albums were 'Under a
Dying Sun' and 'The Serpents Egg'. The band are indeed from Australia
and are largely the brain child of the two vocalists whos names escape
me. I think they are extremely good . i saw them about 6 years ago at
saddlers Wells ballet and they are even better live. They had about 30
musicians on stage with everything from middle Eastern tympani to
Euphoniums.
I *think* there maybe an Irish folk band of the same name as i read a
review of an album a few months back which definitely did'nt sound like
the DCD I know and love.
but then I could be wrong

re .-1
Yup, their both available in the UK. I've got vol 1 on vinyl, and vol 2 on CD.
I'm not sure that Vol 1 was bought out on CD.
Try the 'World Music' section in any decent sized record shop. I think I've even
seen them in Our Price in Basingstoke!
