Note 333.0 Sakamoto Revisited No replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was shocked to find no replies to a note I placed last November
about RIUICHI SAKAMOTO. As an avid UK_MUSIC reader one would have
thought that the musical appreciation of this eclectic forum would
have lent itself to his music. Since my last note, Sakamoto has
received an Academy Award for the soundtrack of The Last Emperor.
A movie that he not only scored but also stared in.
Any comments about Sakamoto and his current projects would be welcomed.
Sincerely,
Michael

Thanks. I watched the LAst Emperor on vid the other night, and was
wondering why that name sounded so familiar!
Not expecting it in a film credit, I suppose.
Actually, considering David Byrne lent a hand, I thought the soundtrack
was disapointing. Still, if it got an Academy Award, I must have
cloth ears.

I would have mentioned David Byrne if I had recognized any of his
style in the soundtrack. This was not Sakamoto's first film score
or role. He also was in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence opposite David
Bowie. He has solicited the support of other musicians on many
of his albums; namely Iggi Pop, David Sylvian, Thomas Dolby, and
other session players.
If anyone is interested in more information about this versitile
musician, just ask.

| Thought i'd revive this old topic. I recently baught a new CD single by
YMO with a couple tracks of remixes by some more recent groups. The one
that caught my eye was the Orb, although YMO tweaking of it is nothing
to write home about. Better still is the version of Alien8, thats very
poppy, more intersting.
It's the first time I'v heard of this guy, but I'll look out for more
of his stuff in future.
