Town and Country Club ?
Have fun finding it!
I got lost on the way there, and on the way back, with so many
diversions and one way systems, is really difficult to follow
a map :-( .

265.10 | How to Car it there | JANUS::BHARRISON | Born to red-line | Tue Nov 22 1988 10:11 | 58 |
|
Well guy's 'n' Gal's that's the way for the whimps, but to get there
by car is a little more involved.
First, if your coming from Reading, M4/A4 it into the centre of
London, follow the signs to Camden town, when you get to Camden
High St keep in the right hand lane (yup it's one way) and when
you get to the lights at the top (you'll see camden town tube) take
a 45 right turn onto Camden road, (it's not the one immediately
to the right of the tube station, but the next one to the right
(I'll draw a map). Carry on up there untill you reach a blue bridge
with the word 'FERODO' on it, here make a left, carry on up that
road (I think it may be called College st) until you hit kentish
town (about mile) keep going, you will see Kentish town tube on
your right, just after here the road forks, take the left fork and
the town and country club is on your immediate left. OK ?
Any problems understanding this Email me (Janus::Bharrison) or phone
me (DTN 830 3747) and I'll explain.

| Yer all wimps!!
I'll be parachuting in without the aid of a map or a photo......
Seriously though, take the right out of Kentish Town tube, walk
up 2/300 yards, past the large pub (SWP meetings on Wednesdays!!)
then take the left fork when the road splits in two.
It's just past the Bull and Gate pub a.k.a the Hype Club and resembles
a disused cinema.
Last time I was that way, the pub across the road had Eric Bell
(ex-Thin Lizzy) on for nothing
See ya

265.15 | same Steve Earle? | HAZEL::STARR | Like a fool, fell in love with you... | Wed Nov 23 1988 15:08 | 16 |
| Speaking of being 'confused and determined'.....
I had assumed that when you people started alking about Steve Earl, you
meant the country music singer Steve Earle, who has a couple albums out
in the States.
But this morning, I heard the song "Copperfield Road" (on WBCN, for all
you people in the Bosotn area), and it was not a country song at all (at
least not Nashville-type country).
So what's the deal? Is this a different Steve Earl? And is he from your
side of the pond? Or is is the same Steve Earl from Nashville, but with
a more rock sound?
Confused, but determined to get more confused.....8^)

265.16 | I think it is the same guy | 42535::HILLIS | Exiled on Main Street | Wed Nov 23 1988 17:44 | 10 |
| It's the same Steve Earle, with his backing band the DUKES
albums include EXIT 0 and COPPERHEAD ROAD.
At least I think it is the same guy, I think he has moved towards
being country rock, as I have an early compilation album of his
which I suppose is more of a country sound but still has a rock
influence nevertheless.

265.17 | When the darkness takes control.... | YUPPY::MEERMAN | Confused but determined | Wed Nov 23 1988 17:48 | 14 |
| It is the country singer Steve Earle, from your side of the pond.
His last album is rather different from the previous ones. I once
mumbled to someone he reminded me of (old) Bruce Springsteen and
my nose still hurts.
I do like the country & western stuff though.... and things like
Sweet Little '66 - yum. My mind has gone totally blank for other
songs... And I heard them solid for about three weeks! Why is it
Dwight Yoakam comes to mind too....

265.18 | | WELMTS::GREENB | Is it angst or too much lager? | Thu Nov 24 1988 08:20 | 14 |
| Is this the chap who had a single a while back called The Rain Came
Down, or something like. I liked it a lot, sort of similar to a
single by Green on Red from a couple of years back called Time Aint
Nothing (BTW, they're a band worth checking out)
It was sort of country rock, I s'pose - anything more straight country
sounding than this and I tend to start going off a bit.......
Is this fairly representative of his sound - also, how close to
straight country is Dwight Y.
Karina - don't compare *anyone* to Stringbean please, I reckon if
we all keep quiet about him for a while he might disappear 8^) 8^)

Steve Earle in this weeks NME, I hasten to add that it was just
passing though. Earle seems to be a bit of a character though

| Dont know which one I prefer yet - Dwight or Steve... Dwight is
so wonderfully heartbreaking! "Pain" I think the word is...
I mean lines like "She wore red dresses and now she lies dead" and
"Today I had another bout of sorrow", Favourite one "It won't hurt
when I fall down this barstool". Pure depression...
I like Steve Earl - but he seems more sensible - or haven't I listened
properly....

| The gig on Tuseday night was really good. He was on stage for almost
three hours the set rolled form one song to the next effortlessly.
He did mention the pogues on several occasions as his current single
is a joint venture with them, I think it is called JOHNNY COME LATELY.

Just as a slight aside, the gig wasn't as packed on the dance floor
as some gigs. You can really get close to the front at some gigs
there. It's fast becoming my favourite Lndon venue.
