Ah, now we're talking...pure nostalga...(sigh)
Mud Slide Slim was the first album I *ever* bought back in '71...those
were the days indeed.
Best album probably "Gorilla" which features the additional vocal
expertise of Croby & Nash.
Wonderful accoustic guitarist.

| Any other JT fans catch the concert from Boston's Colonial Hall, on
BBC1 last Friday? JT, and the musicians that back him, never cease to
amaze me. They make good music, they have fun doing it, and their
audience has fun listening. It all appears so laid back, but if you
listen carefully you realise just how professional and precise
everything is. A listen to any JT album confirms this.
The bass player (Leland Sklar) and keyboards player (Don Grolnick) have
been backing JT since the year dot, which helps.
The concert on Friday was produced by good ol' WGBH in Boston, with the
Record Plant Mobile doing the sound. Do any US readers know if the
sound track has been released as an album in any format? Or can they
give me the address of WGBH so I can write and find out?

that.

Many thanks, Sue. I'll write them at the weekend.
re .7.....
I agree he's had a hard life, but it was largely his own doing - drugs,
etc; I don't know if drugs were the cause or the result of his nervous
breakdown years ago, though. I believe he wrote "Fire & Rain" and
"Carolina In My Mind" whilst having treatment for his break down in
hospital, which gives the lyrics a whole different slant.

I've recently bought the JT CD "Classic Songs" compilation (purely for
nostalgic purposses as my old albums are ruined), and I've been trying
to put a name to a female voice on one track.
The track is called Her Town Too, and I recognise the female voice so
well, but I just can't put my finger on who it is.
Thanks if you can put me out of my misery.
Michael
p.s. - I'm sure it's NOT Carly Simon.

Does anyone know the name of the JTQ tune that was the theme to Starsky and Hutch.
Thanks in advance,

| Michael,
I think I know of the song you are talking about, however I do not
recall a female co-singer. The song was originally released as a duet
by James Taylor and J.D. Souther. It was released about the time James
and Carly split up, as those two (James and Carly) reportedly traded
jabs via songs, it may be related to their situations.

Re- .10
Mark,
I hate to be the one that breaks this to you but the
song is (I'm sure) named "Starsky and Hutch". It's on an earlier CD but
not "The first 64 minutes". The reason I know is, when I bought
"..64..", the guy in the shop put the other one (which I can't for the
life of me remember) in the case. I did return it for my desired
selection (after listening to it a couple of times, of course). Hope
this is of some help,
John A.
PS. You were right, totally different people.
PPS. Apologies to the James Taylor fans here for infiltrating their
note.

| Re-1. Hmm, wrong James Taylor. The group in question here are the
James Taylor Quartet, and jazzy/funky sorta band. The Starsky and
Hutch theme is some jazz number which I ca't remember the name of, tho'
on the album I seem to recall its credited as the S&H theme.

Re-1.
Mikef,
I know that they're totally different people, that's why I had
let Mark know that he was correct in assuming that they were different,
then apologised to JT(no Q) fans for infiltrating their note.
John A.
As an aside, Mud Slide Slim is the only Taylor LP I've heard and
think it's a great album. It was one of my parents old LP's that I
found at the back of a cupboard when I was about 10 years old (maybe
that would be a good topic for discussion, What LP's of your
parents/older sisters etc did you try playing and actually find that
you liked before knowing who the [usually famous] artists were?

I think you have indeed answered my question. Isn't J.D.Souther the
person who sings on recently released duet of 'Crying' with the late
Roy Orbison? That must be where I heard his voice before.
He has a wonderful voice, but he really does sound female!
Maybe that's why he only uses his initials - to confuse the public ;-)

The Starsky and Hutch theme was originally on a 12 inch of about 3
years ago - I think it was called something really banal like "The
Theme from Starsky and Hutch"
Very good it is too, you get two versions and a bonus track called
"Indian Summer" which is a smooth funky saxy smoochy mid-tempo
groover.
Well worth seeking out if you're a fan of Mr T, or not.
