225.0. "Willie and The Poor Boys" by CRUSHA::SALLITT (Dave @ ICI,0642432193) Tue Oct 04 1988 13:44

Did anyone see the "Willie and The Poor Boys" video on Channel 4
a few months ago? They didn't produce the sort of bland mixture
of styles you'd expect from a line-up of top players, a la "Feed
The World", but some really good back-to-basics ass-kicking
    rock'n'roll, playing all well-known numbers.

As I recall, they comprised Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Chris Rea,
Andy Fairweather-Low, Ronnie Wood, plus others; does anyone know
    who the "others" were?

Or if they ever produced any available recordings?

In the U.S., there was an album called 'Willie and the Poor Boys' by
this line-up. I believe there were also some 'guest stars' on the album
(ala Beck and Page), but I'm can't remember exactly whom. I would
assume it was also released in the U.K., but I'm not sure (it was on
an independent label in the U.S.).

As an aside - I believe all proceeds from the album were donated to a
charity, but I can't remember which one.

Sounds good, was it just a one-off, or are they likely
    	to get together again??

As far as I know, it was just a one-off type thing. It wasn't a commercial
success here in the States (in fact, it was a big flop!), so I don't
know if they plan any more. The album did, however, get very good
reviews from the press. It's just that it came out a couple years ago
when benefit albums were all the rage, and the response seemed to be
"Oh, *another* benfit album".

I remember hearing once or twice when it came out and enjoyed it very
much. Never did see the video, though.

What relationship are they to the Creedence Clearwater Revival album
called Willie and the Poorboys? Just curious.

I don't think there is any relation, other than the fact that they seemed
to have 'borrowed' the name.
