224.0. "Maxi Priest" by EXIT26::SAARINEN () Sat Oct 01 1988 01:20

I went to a local Boston, MA U.S.A Rock club, "The Channel",
and saw Maxi Priest. He was backed up by Sly and Robbie and
the Taxi Gang. Sly and Robbie are two of the best
session players for most of the greatest Reggae muscians.

Sly and Robbie has also backed up the likes of Bob Dylan
and the Rolling Stones, the late Peter Tosh etc...

They billed Maxi Priest as the newest and hottest Reggae
Performer in England. He is suppose to be #1 in London's
    Reggae list of Performers.

    Any truth to this?

I am orginally from London, now living in Toronto.

Zipping through these notes I notice you didn't get a reply
to your question, could it be that reggae is not something
these noters listen to. I know for sure reggae is played
on most of the radio stations now.

To answer your question, when I lived in London, Maxi Priest
was #1 in the reggae charts, not the national charts.

Maxi, Sly and Robbie also played in Toronto and I went to
see them. They were quite good but not as great as
    ASWAD.

    Jenny,

Thanks for the reply...interesting to hear that Maxi Priest is
ranked #1 in the Reggae charts in London. I have seen him on
MTV in a video of an old Cat Stevens song the last month or
    so.

Aswad has also had a video on MTV, but the airplay of their video
    has been minimal.

I am looking for to seeing Gregory Isaac's in Boston next month.

    ciao
