Never listened to Mahler. I prefer anything J.S. Bach, I like most
of Beethoven's stuff, and especially Paginini (sp?).
and I *love* Iron Maiden!

"Yes of course Kubrick started it with 2001. Didn't he ?"
Naaah. Brief Encounter(Rachmaninov?) and Death In Venice(Mahler's
6th.) predate 2001 by more years I care to admit to. And there's probably
zillions from before that.

219.20 | I did say I would stand corrected. | CRUSHA::BELL | There must be some kinda way outa here! | Thu Oct 06 1988 13:35 | 9 |
| Of course classical music was used in films before 2001. What I
meant was the use of the music as such an integral part of the film,
like who can hear 'Also Sprack Zarathustra' now without thinking
of the opening sequence or 'The Blue Danube' without images of
cartwheeling space stations. (Anyone over 30 anyway.)

I listen to the odd piece of classical music now and again
Holst, Beethoven, a little Handl. But the one piece I'd really
like is The Mighty Empress (the old spice tune), only problem is
I don't know who compossed it!!

| I'm not too sure who composed the 'Old Spice' theme but you can
find it on an album called Carmina Bruana - the whole thing is similar
to that tune.
Other faves: Motzart, Bach, Tchaikovsky(sp?) and all the Strauss
waltzs.

my stereo equipment. I want something VERY powerful sounding.
Less flutes and violas, more percussion, bass, and brass.
Can anyone make a few suggestions on which ones I should get????

The Telarc label has a bunch of discs out by Eric Kunzel and
the Cincinnati (Pops?). They perform alot of the classical
music that you are looking for. Definitely get the version of
1812 Overture on Telarc.
