| Whenever I hear Bonnie Tyler's total eclipse of the heart, when
she (or the backing singers) sing 'turnaround bright eyes' (or whatever
- that's not what it says here 8^)) it reminds me of the start of
'paperback writer' by the Beatles...
Try it next time...

| "There's a pawn shop on a corner in Pittsburgh Pensylvania..."
is the same tune as the beginning of
"Little boxes made of ticky-tacky" - or whatever it was called...
"Faith" by George Michael sounds like Clapton's "Hand Jive"
lotsa others, too, including "My sweet Lord"..!

New Order song since 1985.

Adam Ant - Prince Charming sounds very like a song recorded by Rolf
Harris in about 1965, which was a version of an aboriginal war chant!!!

What about Ray Parker Jnr's "Ghostbusters" - a dead ringer for "want
a new drug" by Huey Lewis.
In fact, I think there may have been a law suit over this?

| Re -1: Yes, there was. In fact, didn't both Huey Lewis *and* M (for
"Pop Music") litigate simultaneously, both claiming to have been
plagiarised? Which perhaps undermined their cases (unless they had
also sued each other!).

| We had whatshisname and the Widow at my 5 year dinner the other
year (Kit? and the Widow) and they did a very amusing song based
on the fact that all Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber songs are cribs
of classics. Can't remember all the countless examples they went
through but how about Memory and Ravel's Bolero for starters?
Anyone got 10CC 'Original Soundtrack'? Well the last song (Film
of my Life) is an EXACT copy melodywise of some 50's Matt Munro
type song. I will stake my life on it! But does anyone know what
song? Its bugged me ever since I first heard it back in 76. Also,
I'm Not in Love (on same album) is reputed to be a crib. Once again
I can't remember what song its supposed to br a crib of.
Richard
Ps, remember seeing the Nigerian Army in the Biafran War singing
'Helule Helule' (remember, the Tremeloes!) as a marching song
on a documentary!

"Angel Fingers" by Wizzard was pretty much the same as a much older
1940s/50s song with the chorus:
"In a shady nook, by a babling brook, that's where I fell in love
with you"
Can't recall the singer, but the songs are very similar. Think
the song was called "Babling Brook"

| Spookily enough....
David Bowie copped the chord sequence for Life on Mars from a Paul
Anka ditty called My Way (yes, *that* My Way). The lyrics from one
can be sung over the backing of the other, even though the two melody
lines are different.
Apparently, DB did this on purpose, the reason being that he *detests*
My Way

The prize for records sounding alike must go to:
New Order's 'Blue Monday' &
Divine's 'Love Reaction'
These records are identical apart from the lyrics (which aren't a
prominent feature on either). There was no legal action, New Order
just commented they preferred Divine's record. Perhaps if Divine
haven't died recently we could now be enjoying 'Love Reaction 88'.
The Walk by the Cure is also similar.

I suspect it's just me, but I think Aztec Camera's "Somewhere in my
