They played 2 sets at this year's Cambridge Folk Festival. Wasn't
over impressed - a bit to much self-indulence at times, but they
do play good blues.

207.2 | can a blue man sing the whites? | CHEFS::IMMSA | laugh? I thought I'd never start | Tue Sep 20 1988 13:42 | 19 |
| I think you will find that the lead singer is Paul Jones who used
to be with Manfred Mann some time ago and also did a programme on
Radio 2 of blues old and new.
The Guitar player is Dave Kelly who plays pretty good slide. I saw
Kate and Anna Mcgarrigle in London about three years ago and Dave
Kelly was support - just him and his acoustic blues. I was quite
impressed.
His sister is Jo-anne Kelly who also plays a mean blues guitar as
a cross between Memphis Minnie and Fred Mcdowell!
As they are local I would suggest a visit to the Hexagon but if
you are further away than Newbury, dont bother :-)

207.3 | Blues Band line-up | AYOU30::PAULC | That'll fix it, thought Ron | Thu Sep 22 1988 09:38 | 16 |
| The Blues Band are:
Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness, Dave Kelly, Rob Townsend, and Gary
Fletcher.
Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness both used to be in Manfred Mann in
the 60s, and Rob Townsend was the drummer with Family. McGuinness
went on to form McGuinness Flint.
I saw them in Ayr in May this year. If you like 60s r'n'b you won't
find anybody who can play it better than this lot. Self-indulgent?
I didn't think so. I was impressed with their enthusiasm for the
music, though I have to say that by the end I would have liked a
bit more variation.
