| Not the word I'd use to describe people who listen to those
two voluntarily - but the word I'd use *is* rude, so I'll just have
to set moderator/target=self and shut up.

| The music is usually chart stuff, with lost of Sabrina and Tiffany
etc.
Hey, don't go getting any funny ideas - I only listen to it, if
forced.
BTW - I didn't think spamhead was rude

200.5 | Spamhead - the definition. | BONNET::MCALLISTER | | Fri Sep 16 1988 12:51 | 28 |
|
Spamhead (all one word and not with a space in the middle as in
the base note) is derived from the food SPAM which is a cheap meat
with lots of fatty bits in it,its bought mostly by students, nurses
and those on low incomes [like dec fs engineers],in the olden days
before spam was sold in tins, its was sold with a think plastic (I
think) wrapping which was much thicker at one end than the other.
This was so that the spam could be stood on its end and the thicker
base would provide stability through presenting a level end of spam
to the cupboard shelving.
Invariably, when people were going to open their cylindrical mass
of spam with the thick bit at one end they would first cut off the
thick plastic coating and eat it from that end, this end was then known
as the head of the spam.Normally the first piece or two from the
head would not be too good because of its contact with the thick
plastic base, people used to say that there was no goodness in the
Head of the Spam as this piece was always thrown away.Through time
this phrase got modified to the Spamhead was bad, useless,of no good,
worthless etc and the term began to be used to describe anything
that was of no good,of no benefit etc. For example He's a waster
that guy,a complete spamhead, Glasgow Rangers they're nothing but
a bunch of spamheads etc.
I hope this clears up the confusion,
Best regards, mcbill (social history is my hobby)

| I thought Spamhead was just a name used for bald person, meaning
there forehead looked a bit like a slice of luncheon meat, well
that's what we used to call all the bald teachers at school anyway.

By the way I forgot to mention, there's a fella I know, everybody
calls him Spamhead because he's bald, his name is Steve Hannan.
