Yep, it was some performance. Can't say I'm a big Prince fan,
but I was really taken aback at his solo ability on both guitar
    and piano.

On the minus side, some of the numbers went on for so long, and
some run together that it had the feel more of a rock opera than
    a rock concert.

    But still well worth seeing.

I got the impression that there was an awful lot of backing tapes
being used,I even though that Princes voice was a recording in one
of the high falsetto pieces, either that or he's a bit of a
    ventriloquist as well.
I thought it was a superb show, they missed a lot of the good drumming
bits from the albums particularly Dance On from Lovesexy though.
The wee man seemed pleased with how it went.
I was very impressed with his dancing and the overall timing and
    tightness of the show.

| | I got around to watching the tape whilst making the audio recording
    for Mike Fiddler.

It seemed to be real rubbish, very exploitative of women and
subtle lyrics as can be put around the phrase "I'll jack you off".

women seem attractive without making them sex objects.

Whatever you think of Prince, most of what I've seen/heard adds
    up to this ....

He's been more succesful in recent years that anyone else in bringing
sould, funk, rock and blues together in one almighty fusion. And
    .... it works!

His image puts a lot off, so if that's you're thing, then more fool
    you.

I'm no fool, his show was exploitative as hell and I don't have
to be a fool to be offended.

As to his music, yes, some of his stuff is good, but the rest?
As with all popular artists, he has two sides, I'm merely expressing
    my opinions on them.

Of course it's your opinion (I wish people would stop stating the
obvious!!!). *I* consider that you're missing out, Andy, that's all.
I can see that he may not be everyone's cup of tea, but critically ...

His albums "Purple Rain", "Around The World In A Day" and "Sign
Of The Times" are 80's classics, and very well crafted.

| | I have a ticket to see Prince in concert on October 5 in Massachusetts.
The show sold out in 28 minutes, as Prince just started his first
domestic tour since 1984. There was no "Sign 'O the Times" tour
in the U.S. Someone told me that the concert will be in the round,
and that Prince may enter the venue on a motorcycle and ride it
right up onto the stage! I also heard that Prince has expanded
his show to 3 hours and added additional props, etc. in order to
compete with Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson, respectively.
Would anyone who has seen his current tour be able to confirm these
    stories?

Did Prince not tour the US in '86 after releasing the Parade album?

His European shows lasted from 2 to 3+ hours, depending on how
he felt (!). He enters the stage from a car which circles the playing
area...he also leaves on the top of it.

The stage has members of the group dotted around, with guitarists
and brass on radio mics for manouvrability. I would imaging the
show will be pumped up a touch for the States.....

| | All of the descriptions and reviews of Prince's current tour
have sounded positive. He is reputed to be an excellent live
performer. I guess he has not toured the U.S. for so long because
we have had little snow in April for many a year in these parts!
Did he mention something such as that at the end of the "Around the
World in a Day" album? The "Parade" album/movie/fiasco/flop was
so unsuccessful that there was no U.S. tour to promote that endeavor.
I recently bought that CD for the equivalent of 3.35, as half of the
music is among Prince's best work. Concert movies/videos and television
are so unflattering to dynamic performers that I was surprized to
learn that Prince had appeared on television in the U.K. His first
concert film was a technical failure because the show was not relit
for the camera rather than the live audience. Everything appears
murky and blue. "Sign 'O the Times" was much better, but still
very limiting for Prince when viewed on video. I just can't what
to have my eyes and ears assaulted in two weeks!!!!

This might of been mentioned before in one of the Prince topics,
I bought Lovesexy on CD and when the tracks come up on the LCD it

My girlfriend has the disk and it does the same thing. There is
a footnote on the inside page of the booklett that explains that
due to the tracks flowing into each other, it is impossible to make
divisions for cueing (sp?) purposes. Seems a bit daft to me since
the likes of Zappa, J.M.Jarre, Oldfield etc..... can manage it.
