    re .1 I don't think it's an lp - thats not coming out for a while.There
is a new single out ,which is a 3 track ep, for 99p.(what a bargain!).A
live six track mini-lp imported from the states turned up a couple
    of months back.
The current tour dates are in this weeks NME, if you still need
them on monday I'll post them.
the version of Route 66 is called A13, and is on the Peel Sessions
    12 inch.

December 30th 1990 Hackney Empire Billy Bragg + Wiggys All Stars etc

Well after getting lost tring to find Hackney and driving everywhere
but, we finally arrived, had the worst fish and chips I have ever
tasted, Grease is the word....etc etc

Billy came on and introduced the first support act who was Carol
something, she was American and sang a song about having sex with a
train, enough said except that she had a good voice but was nothing
new, a bit Michelle Shockedish but not as good.

Then Billy came on and introduced Andy White an Irishman who I'm sure
sang some very meaningful lyrics, unfortunately I couldn't make them
    out.

At last Billy comes on to play to rappturous reception. He went
through a few of his early songs especially those with the army
connections and then progressed to newer material. The early part of
the gig was pretty serious with him commenting on the situation in the
Gulf and singing relevant songs including a new one "Rumours of War".
Things then lightened up with tales of the World Cup, West Ham and lost
teeth as a result of stage invasions. He sang some new songs due to be
released sometime in the new year and included all the old favourites.
(Accident Waiting To Happen will be the new single and could do well in
the charts, maybe). For the first time ever I saw him using a drummer for
parts of the show as a member of Wiggys All Stars.

He did several cover versions, one being of a Love track which he
covered for the Electra album and has been prenominated for a grammy
for best male vocal of all things. The covers included a trip through
Essex's famous bands, these being Everything Counts by Depeche Mode
(this worked really well), an Eddie and the Hotrods track and another
band which I can't remember for the life of me at the moment.

He finished with a track which he co-wrote with Andy White and everyone
lived happily ever after until we got lost in London again thanks to a
friends short cut. I've always wanted to see the sights of London by
    night.

Did anyone hear Billy Bragg on "In Concert" on Radio 1 on Saturday night ? I
caught the last half hour of it, and it was really excellent stuff. I especially
liked the extended bit at the end where he introduced all the members of the
band - really funny.

Gee, I always picture Billy as some who had a (or several)
girlfriend(s) who broke his heart and he'll never recover, (but has
    kept his humor.)
