He's added 3 extra at the Royal Albert Hall in October (start). First
three are sold out.
Will post dates if you want 'em.

175.2 | Steve Winwood recordings | MARVIN::MACHIN | | Wed Aug 24 1988 14:13 | 8 |
| This is the note to ask people of any albums they know of on which
Steve Winwood plays some keyboards. I know of (all the SW albums),
Peter Gabriel's "So" (is that the one?) and John Martyn's "One World".
-- oh, and the Traffic albums.
Any others?
Richard.

GO
GO (Live from Paris)
Both were Stomu Yamashta efforts - vocals from Winwood certainly,
but not too sure on the kb front.

| He also plays k'bds on Talk Talk's 'The Colour of Spring'.
This appears to be a 'one-off' classic album.

the later ones too...)

He played Great Woods here earlier in the week and got a terrible
review...too plastic, too "Hollywood", no imagination, "invisible"
backup singers and band.

175.10 | RMC | BISTRO::WARD | | Mon Sep 05 1988 18:26 | 6 |
| On the spur of the moment I bought Steve Winwood's current album
I wasn't disappointed. On one of the radio stations here -
Radio (pronounced Raaadyo) Monte Carlo - it's been featured
quite heavily, particularly the last track on side 2 (Shine On?).
Has this (or any other track for that matter) been released as
the next single in the UK yet ?
|
175.11 | "Shining Song", I think.. | MARVIN::MACHIN | | Tue Sep 06 1988 10:59 | 10 |
| No next single yet -- in fact the amount of play given to the remix
of "Valerie" (off the 'best of' album (and for once much better
than the original mix)) suggests *it* was re-released as a single
not long ago.
Needless to say, with the sort of pea-brain mush in the charts at
the moment, SW singles don't get anywhere. Good job they don't need
to -- at last the album sales bear witness to his talents.
Richard.

175.12 | Been done | BISTRO::WARD | | Wed Sep 07 1988 10:14 | 3 |
| I have the original "Valerie" in my collection from the cold winter
of 1982/83. It was re-released earlier this year and did well
both sides of the Atlantic (as I recall).

| Me again..
Talking of that song in .13 , anyone know what the first line
is? Can't make it out...sounds like: `Stuck up in a clear blue
morning..'
Or: `Stoke up on a clear blue morning..'
D'you think he could be a closet steam train driver?
Ideas please..

"Stand up in a clear blue morning"

You came so close, but it's "Woke up to (in?) a brand new morning".
A couple lines later he says something about a "cold day dawning".

Are you sure?? I listened to it again and I'm sure he says:
"Stand up in a clear blue morning...."
Does anyone have the sheet music?

No, I'm not sure - you may very well be right! I guess I always thought
that "Woke up" made more sense than "Stand up", so I thought that was it.
But since when did rock and roll lyrics 'make sense'? 8^)

The album lyrics say "Stand up ...."

My penchant for closet steam train drivers goes ubfulfilled I suppose!!
