| Errr hi Mike, hows it going?
Nope I didn't make to Amnesty but did get down to Stonehenge (which
insidentally was the "replacement" for most, for Glastonbury), and among the
line up was Hawkwind!
Better luck next year!

| Might sound like a silly question-but where was the stonehenge
fest held this year?
Actually,on the campsite on sunday evening,a number of bands appeared,
one of whom was Nik Turner and his Inner City Unit-who I've not
actually seen before!
They were very good and Nik was on fine ranting form

I was there......yippeee......
I did mean to get round to putting in my comments but....oh sod
it I'm a lazy sod.
Anyway here you are now (and I've just remembered I did put a reply
in the radio_radio conf and got zero response sniff sniff)...
Got bored with Michele Shocked's old hat lyrics (and sound), thought
World Dom. Ent. were good, as were Screaming Blue Messiahs. Joe
Strummer seemed to be hassled with a bad sound system (although
that could have been him...)-loved it though. The Bhundu boys were
another good one but as for Aswad being the best of the day, they
started of really badly I felt and got better as time went on. They
finished off really good, especially after finishing off the bottle
fight....BAD, well what can I say, brill....love em. Shame Joe didn't
come on though, and that they didn't play Prince's 1999. I only
stayed to see The Damned play New Rose and left as thay's the only
Damned track I've any time for.
As for the day itself, it was a great day out with superb weather,
a bit too much for some 'gothics' though. I'll be back next year.
Tommy
P.S. I only made Sunday by the way, heard Sat was crap though.

| Whats the Radio-Radio conf.?
Aswad were a lot better on the Saturday, the sound was a bit duff
on sunday.BAD were wonderfull of course-have you got the new album,if
so-whats it like?
I think you're a bit harsh on Michelle Shocked,she wasn't that
bad.Actually, there were a lot of good bands in the WORLD TENT,
including a good jazz band with Annie Whitehead on Saturday.
Howard Jones played on saturday, and he was really crap,I didn't
bother with the Stranglers.
Martin Stephenson was also one of the highlights of the weekend, but
most people seemed to be around for New Model Army, who I could not
see the appeal of.
Joe Strummer was very good also, tho I would like to see his band
when they don't do so many Clash covers.

Are you sure it was Nik Turner and 'Inner City Unit'?
I thought They'd split and it was now Nik Turners all Stars' ???

According to the papers seems Amnesty International made a lost
on this. The Festival lacked the big names and the TV coverage of
the Nelson Mandela concert the weekend before though the sunshine
on Sunday made it worth it.
I only attended the Sunday half. We had all these cans of Miller
Light only to be told we weren't allowed to take then in. So I was
stoned for the early bands. Found myself at the front barefoot during
the Screaming Blue Messiahs surrounded by DMs.
I'd sobered up by the time the Man they Couldn't hang
came on with a naff sound system. Joe Strummer is worth
a mention for 'I fought the law' (and the law won). New Model Army
were terrible. It improved towards the end as the light faded and the
bon fire started. I enjoyed Aswad and B.A.D before heading off missing
the Damned.
Marc.
P.S. Weren't the balloons pretty?

Thats what winds me up about these charity things, you get a big
bash thats getting all the media attention (i.e. Mandela gig) and
everyone wants to play. Then you get the Amnesty gig, a cause which
they all support so strongly???, with little attention (certainly
no TV coverage), and surprise surprise, the big boys (if you know
what I mean) aren't interested.
Pisses me off.
Anyway, I felt the musical content at Amnesty was better than Mandela
gig.
Yeah, you quote one of the stars of the day (I've forgotten which
one) - "What is it with Milton Keynes and balloons?"
Cheers

| Reply to earlier note- yes you could be right about Nik turners
all stars.I missed the first few minutes, and it was not always
easy to understand what he was talking about between songs (I would
not like to imagine why!).
