103.1 | Mail order to the U.K. - no problem! | AYOV10::DROBB | Working for the yankee dollar | Thu Jun 09 1988 15:42 | 11 |
| Stefaan, I cannot find this in any of the local record stores, BUT
you can order it by mail from :-
Adrian's Records, 36 High Street, Wickford, Essex SS12 9AZ, England.
The cost of the disc is 3.99 plus postage of 1.50 = 5.49 in total.
Preferred payment method is International Money Order. I called
this store at lunchtime, and they have plenty of this title in stock.
You should also ask for a copy of their latest CD catalogue when
you send your order - they have a marvellous selection.

103.2 | Calling Bob Green - Mr. Green to the judge's tent please | AYOV10::DROBB | Living life will take its toll | Fri Feb 17 1989 13:40 | 9 |
| I received the JENNIFER SHE SAID CD single by mail this a.m., the
other tracks being a six-minute re-mix of MY BAG, and PERFECT BLUE.
Does the latter feature on either of their first two albums (set/mode =
mental_block)?
I'm also awaiting receipt of the FROM THE HIP CD EP which apparently
contains three brand new tracks recorded in the early part of last
year in Glasgow. Bob, have you heard this stuff?

103.3 | To find your room, swimming in blue and green | AYOV10::CAIRNS | The Tranquility of Solitude | Fri Feb 17 1989 13:42 | 6 |
| Dougie,
PERFECT BLUE was the last track on 'Easy Pieces'
A.Y.M.O.P.

103.4 | Haven't listened to EASY PIECES in ages, y'know | AYOV10::DROBB | Living life will take its toll | Fri Feb 17 1989 13:50 | 2 |
| Shucks, so my hard-earned cash was blown for the sake of the MY
BAG dance re-mix? Ah well, that *better* be good 8-)
|
103.5 | There isn't a lot of info in this note! | WELMTS::GREENB | burning with optimism's flames | Fri Feb 17 1989 14:00 | 23 |
| re .2 Hello once again Dougie.
This Lloyd Cole chap crops up all over the place.
I was also going to point out where Perfect Blue, IMO the best track
on the 2nd lp, came from. I never bought the lp, I found it a letdown
after the towering majesty of the first one. Still, a year or two's
gone by now, I'm coming round to the opinion that I will get it
as a record in it's own right rather than relate it to the first
one. Just heard Brand New Friend the other day for the first time
in ages, and it really made the old goosebumps rise.
I still *adore* the third one.....
I haven't heard the "From the Hip" CD EP - is it available on tape
or vinyl, I don't have a CD player yet (I say yet, the possibility
is looming ever larger on the horizon). Apparently, though, I have
heard that the tracks are well worth getting hold of.
Any news of any live dates in the near future?

103.6 | No tour, but a new album later this year? | AYOV10::DROBB | Living life will take its toll | Fri Feb 17 1989 15:41 | 20 |
| Yes Bob, I'm very much looking forward to the new tracks on the
HIP EP (BTW, I'm not sure that all three are on the 7" and 12"
releases), although I *still* don't have a CD player yet. Like
you, I've been pondering over this for what seems like an interminably
long time, to the point that I'm sure my friends and colleagues
at work are tired of listening to me (eh, Mick?). However, I'll
be demo-ing some machines on Sat., so maybe I'll finally make my
mind up to dive right in to the (supposedly) wonderful world of
CDs.
Re. news of a tour, I would doubt it very much. The NME reports
this week, that he's currently in the States recording his new album
with the assistance of producers Paul Hardiman and Fred Maher -
the former has previously worked with Matt 'The The' Johnson, amongst
others.
One last thing Bob, do you know anything about, or indeed have you
ever heard, an early independant release, the DOWN AT THE MISSION
EP? Apparently it's very rare and difficult to get hold of, but
I have seen it advertised for sale occasionally in Record Collector.
|
103.7 | new lp, eh? | WELMTS::GREENB | burning with optimism's flames | Tue Feb 21 1989 10:26 | 17 |
| Dougie, I've heard of Down at th Mission, but that's all.
I have, however, got an 'interesting' live tape of the band ;^)
Shows how much I read the music papers, doesn't it - I had no idea
another lp was on the way. Still, another lp, another tour - we
live in hope...... My sister and her chap (who happens also to be
my stepson but that's another story) suddenly announced last year
about an hour before they went that they were going to see them
at Wembley - they said afterwards that he was utterly utterly etc,
and I still haven't forgiven them.....
What else has Fred Maher done ? The name rings a bell
out-of-touchly yours (damn! wrong conference)

103.9 | LLOYD COLE | REPAIR::COSSEY | | Fri Apr 07 1989 09:58 | 7 |
| Can anyone verify the rumour that Lloyd Cole and the Comotions have
split up, a shame if they have they were definitly an underestimated
band having released three great albums, and also the singles C.D
is well worth buying, they never gained the recognition they deserved.
Neil.

103.10 | cut me down | SHAPES::FIDDLERM | | Fri Apr 07 1989 10:29 | 5 |
| Yes, it was confirmed a couple of weeks ago that they have split,
but its been on the books for quite a while.
Lloyd is recording a new album in New York, with some help from
one of the guys in REM. It sounds promising.

103.12 | better late than never | VANISH::CROOKSTON | Don't throw the 'R' away !!! | Fri Apr 07 1989 14:20 | 15 |

I didn't actually get into The Commotions until the Mainstream album
but I quickly got hold of the previous albums after that. I went
through an absolutely mad phase of playing their stuff all the time.
this was mainly due to a superb gig at Wembley arena last year.
I was really surprised at how well the managed to create some
atmosphere (for want of a better description) in a big place like
that. Would have love to have seen a bit more but thats life eh.
I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy the greatest hits album
but I shall be eagerly looking out for Lloyds solo stuff, especially
considering he's 'mixing it' (as in socialising) with the lads from
REM.
Tommy.

103.13 | WHY!! | REPAIR::COSSEY | | Fri Apr 07 1989 14:51 | 4 |
| Does anyone know the reason behind the band spliting up? never mind
lets hope he can produce solo classics like the brilliant Perfect
Skin and Forest Fire which by the way i think was the best thing they
done but was never a hit.
|
103.14 | Re-release | AYOV27::MBONE | | Mon Apr 17 1989 16:00 | 5 |

103.15 | Lloyd + REM = !!!!!? | WELMTS::GREENB | Reversing into the future | Tue Apr 18 1989 17:55 | 11 |
| Yeah, I heard the Commotions had split, and that Lloyd was working
solo, but it's news to me that he's working with the mighty REM
people. It sounds promising, doesn't it.
What are the rest of the Commotions doing next? I'm looking for
a backing band!
My money is on the great British public not having enough taste
to make Forest Fire a hit at the second time of asking.
