| I think it's Guadalcanal, I only know that cos there was I think a battle there
in WWII, also a US aircraft carrier so named.
Reminds me of one of my favourite album titles :-

| I think it's spelled Guadalcanal - scene of a bloody battle between
the US and Japan in WW2, in the Pacific somewhere.
Didn't that group have quite a good single two or three years ago
which had 'Mexico' in the title somehow ?

| Ian! I can confirm that your spelling of the band's name is correct.
I have heard just one track of theirs, on one of the NME compilations
tapes, called "Watusi Rodeo". Quite an interesting little number,
though I have to say that it would hardly inspire me to go out and
buy an album of theirs.

I would just like to point out that "Ian!" is not naturally synonymous
with "Sh*t!". Thank you Dougie Robb......8^)
I read somewhere that GD are representative of the style of music
that R.E.M. have made their money in? Anyone care to comment?
I know zilch about R.E.M., though I understand they're a bit
more accessible than Guada....oh well, you know.
Actually, this brings up an interesting question that should probably
be investigated in another topic, i.e. What Does It Take For You To
Buy The Abum? I've recently purchased Godley & Creme's "Goodbye
Blue Sky" and The Railway Children's "Recurrence", both of which
are marvellous, neither of which I had heard any tracks from, indeed
I had never even heard of The Railway Children until I saw an ad for
the album. I was just feeling reckless I suppose. 8^)
God, what a load of old waffle....it must have been the macaroni
cheese for lunch.....

| Guadalcanal Diary, from the few songs I've heard, is a great band!
Someone's comparison to REM would, IMHO, be fairly accurate. One
of the songs I've heard [that I can remember at all] is starts out
with the line, "I see life from the inside."
I've been looking for their [most recent] album with no success.
If memory serves, there's at least one woman in the group. Really
nice stuff -- alternative to the everyday ho-hum material you might
hear on the radio. If I ever find the album, I'll post a review.
