Last night I had the good fortune to see "This Is Spnal Tap" for
the 7th time.
Absolutely brilliant film.
For me, one of the best moments is when the band are playing a track
called "Stonehenge" and shocked to see that the model of Stonehenge
for the set is 18" high rather than 18' :-)
Another is Lead guitarist Nigel Tufnell playing a beautiful piece
of Mozart and Bach (Mach) influenced music on a piano. The title?
"Lick my l*v* pump" !!!!! :-)
Fantastic film, I've even got the album.

| You mean you can buy all those great songs? (no, I *mean* it)
My particular favourite moment is the guitar solo where he's got
one guitar on a stand and another on him. He's kicking the one on
the stand and passing a violin across the one he is wearing. All
of a sudden he stops producing this cacophany. Why? Because the
violin is out of tune of course. Thus adjusted he continues with
the noise and all of those guitar hero faces.
Also the part where he is explaining about his amplifier.
Nigel: "You know when your playiing along at ten (volume scale) and you
need that bit more, you can turn this one up to eleven"
Marti: "Why dont you just make ten a bit louder"
Nigel: "Errr.......this one goes up to eleven"
And the bit where they're at Elvis' grave and they start singing
Heartbreak Hotel.
And,and,and...

| One of my personal fav's of the film is where they are playing this
gig...
The three gutarist/vocalisits all start off in perspex cocoon's.
as they start the cocoons open 1 at a time, but unfortunately for
1 of the guitarists his doesnt open, and he and a roady spend the
whole song attempting to get the thing open, such object used to
try and open it were :- Brut strength, a hammer and a blow torch...
When at last the thing finally pops open they other 2 are just getting
back into thier cocoons, so the 3rd guitarist tries to return to
his cocoon, only to be locked out, he just manages to get his arm
in......So he turns to the audience and raises his fist as the song
comes to a rather ubrupt end.
I fell about laughing when I saw this.... Any one else also find
this bit rather amusing?
\Andy
PS. Another bit that was good was when they heard them selves being
played on the radio...
when the track finishes the DJ says
"Spinal Tap, now on the 'Where are they now pile!'...."
THEY ARE ON TOUR!!! ;-)

| Ah but surely the best and most hilarious bit of the
whole film was the bass player and the metal detector
at the airport, where it gets set off by the cucumber
wrapped in foil he's got stuffed down his jeans to make
himself more 'prominent'...
I bought ST on Channel 5 Video for a fiver in Smiths a
while back btw, there are some really classic rock films
available in this range.

| Leaving the movie for just a moment, ever watch it with
a person who never heard of it?
A common response: How come I never heard of this band?
Are they still around?
I've never seen those albums in stores......
I try to keep a straight face as long as possible.
And another thing, most heavy metal fans I know don't enjoy
the movie, they don't find it all that funny. They also don't
like the music, after it is pointed out to be a parody.

"It's in the same key, isn't it?"
"Too much f*cking perspective!"
I had the luck of seeing Spinal Tap in concert! (Yes, they really
toured!) It was at the Channel club in Boston, MA. Truly a funny
evening!!

My girlfriend video'd it for me and I saw it last night.
A very good, amusing film.
Did any body see the bit at the end when two presenters were talking
about the Stone Henge model???? (With Sting and the Fortress??).
I thought that "Sex Farm" was a pretty good track :-)

| re: .8
Unfounded rumor, don't know where I heard this, but.......
I heard somewhere that the tour of the band (to promote the movie)
met with many similar mishaps as described in the movie (ie, equipment
failure, crowd apathy, getting on each others nerves, etc, etc).
Too bad, it would have been even funnier if they hit it big using
this movie as their springboard.
I wonder if anybody bothered to make bootleg tapes of them?

| Anyone catch the interview/video for "Bitch School", the new single,
on James Whale the other night? The song is about dogs according
to the Tap's bassist. The video was originally to feature our
canine friends but that fell through as the band felt that a
"no women" allowed stance would upset feminists. Instead the
vid features a high heeled, whip-handed, rubber-clad teacher
who's keeping all the nubile young gals in line..........at
the "Bitch School". Classic lyrics include the line:
"Don't you go sniffing round strangers"
Marvellous,
barry.
