56.0. "Fleetwood Mac" by RDGENG::MOXLEY (The hissing of Spring lawns) Tue May 03 1988 15:15

Did anybody catch 'Fleetwood Mac at 21' last night on BBC2?

I thought 'twas brill...especially the promo vid for 'Gypsy' (never seen
that one before)..and the interview with Peter Green (him of the 2" long
fingernails, yuk!)
The worst part for me though, was the cutting, and fade out of 'The Chain',
aaargghh!...what sacrilege!..

Comments?..

Didn't see it, but I hear that Buckingham will *not* be with them
at Wembley - could be just a rumour, but should be interesting to
see how they get on without them.

Support - The Adventures - worth catching - could break big soon.

Yup that's so..there are 2 replacements for him...one used to play
with Bob Seager...(can't remember the names, but they were interviewed
    on the prog too)

They're not that together on stage - it's Buckingham who generally
holds it together, so it should be interesting. Personally, I don't
rate the rest of the band that highly - Fleetwood is usually too
bombed out of his brain and Nicks just prances about like a fairy!!!

Anyway, a live review would be welcome ...

    David.

Are you sure you got them the right way round ?

But I agree Buckingham was the best of them live, I'm sad
he's left, I liked his songs, he was not much liked by the
F.M. fans cause he had short hair, and didn't go in for the
'airy fairy' look, his songs got very little airplay as well.

    Doug.

P.S. the Bob SEGER guitarist was Drew Abbot, zat 'im?

I've just read somewhere that Mick Fleetwood has recently married
and kicked his drugs and alcohol dependencies. I didn't even
recognize him in the picture they showed. He looks much older and
heavier, bald on top but still with the full beard.

I thought the program was brill.regarding peter green I saw him
playing in a pub in guildford about two years ago,and he was very
strange. When we arrived he was sitting at the bar with his duffel
coat on drinking tea,and generally from his apperance he looked
like a gentleman of the road, certainly not the main act. When the
band got on stage peter had a very tatty stratocaster, which he only
used to strum through the songs. He did all the lead vocals, which
were sung with a great deal of emotion, the version of man of the
world was superb. His band were very good, the guitarist was
exceptionally good, his style was very simular to peter greens.

I saw the programme and thought it was brilliant.

Didn't realise that Lindsay Buckingham had left though and was
rather disappointed at that because he was one of the best when
I saw them live on the Tusk Tour.

Talking of which is there any one out there who knows about the
tour? Would tickets still be available?

Would really be more intersted though to know how long it would
take me to grow my hair like Stevie Nicks.!

    Simon,
I have a copy of the above album I bought it in the States
a few years ago. It's not bad,but as you say it's a must to complete
the set.I presume you have the Lindsey Buckingham solo album then?

As you are probably aware I'm over here in the Galway outback !!!.
If you are really stuck I can make you a copy of it and post it
over to you.But lets see first how you get along with a more 'local'
source. If only one could digitize it and sent it over the NET !!!

No, I'm *more* interested in Stevie Nicks !
I did see a FM 3 or 4 record 'bootleg' set at the Brighton record
fair last month, it was recordings from US radio sessions, looked
    quite good..but I couldn't stretch to 50 quid!

I will be scheduling some time in Tower Records, Boston, next
    week to correct some unfortunate oversights in my CD collection;
if you want, I'll have a look for it there. If so, give me the full
title/artist of the record (probably best to mail me; mail to

    Hi,
    re. last few.

I've got the info you need.
The album is titled 'Buckingham Nick'
It's on the 'Polydor' label, number PD-5058.

That's all the info I can get from the album.
The version I got was a 'sound saver' type ie.
no inner sleeve just a plastic cover.
The outer sleeve is very scant on info ie.
just the title and a picture of the two in the nude !!!
it did not list the song titles or give a date.
The lp itself just listed the song titles but gave no
    date either.

    Hope this helps.

    - Dave K.

ps i played it again last night and it does sound good
    well worth getting.

56.19Pete Green's solo work...LARVAE::BRIGGSThey use computers don't they?Tue May 10 1988 12:1410
I'm suprised that the programme didn't mention the fact that Pete
Green released a (at least one) solo album in about 79/80. Its called
In The Skies and is typical Man of the World/Oh Well/Green Manalishi
    sound throughout.

Apart from the brilliant Proud Pinto instrumental its all pretty
average. The copy I've got is in green plastic so I wonder if it
is a collectors item? Anyone know?

56.20Man of the World...OFFCLU::DKEATINGNot all that shivers is coldTue May 10 1988 12:4327
    re .last
Yes you are correct in bringing this up. Peter Green has released
at least 3 solo albums in this time frame. I've got all of them
but havn't played them for a while, in the Skies is one of them I'll
check the names of the other ones when I get home. Also Mick
Fleetwood had a solo album called 'Africa' on which Peter Green
plays a brillant version of 'Rattle Snake Shake' though he is
credited with the name Peter Greenbaum!!!

I also know for a FACT that Peter Green played some live gigs in
and around the London area within the last two years.I didn't
see the Fleetwood Mac TV programme last week(stuck here in RTE
telly land!!) but from reading some of the comments here on the
programme I get the feeling that Mr Green was 'Glossed over'
(pardon the pun!!). Like he hasn't touched/looked at a guitar,
played live for years, living as a monk/recluse whatever. I get
the feeling that the 'research' was not sufficient to do him
justice.Or else Peter Green was taking them all for a ride !!!

Sure the guy went off the 'deep-end' many moons ago,and sure
John Mayall lived in a tree house, but those were the days.
Listen to those guys play on the early 'Bluesbreakers' albums
and you'll understand why the likes of Clapton,Green and even
Mick Taylor should rate as some of the best guitar players
    ever.

56.21LARVAE::BRIGGSThey use computers don't they?Tue May 10 1988 15:0312
Re.-1 I don't think the program glossed over Pete Green. I think
maybe they sought to sensationalise his predicament. That is it
would have somehow spoiled the image they were trying to create
if they'd said that Pete Green had released 3 solo albums and performed
live in the last two years. In hindsight maybe this was a failing
    of the program.

What truth is there in the other two ex members? One was said to
be somewhere in Sri Lanka but no one could find him. The other
was said to be in a mental home in Southend.

    Richard

    just a few notes....

Peter Green's full name is Peter Greenbaum

Danny Kirwan is the one in a mental home, poor guy used to walk down
    the street talking to himself.

He wasn't actually in the band until around the time of Albatross.

Peter Green was in a bad way for a number of years and actually
sold his famous Les Paul to Garry Moore.....who apparently wouldn't
    sell it back to him!

It's a pity no one ever seems to mention Bob Welch who was with
the band for quite along time and wrote some nice material.
