30.1 | Return of the Venue | SUBURB::SUMMERFIELDC | Wide-angle watcher | Wed Apr 06 1988 14:08 | 8 |
| I thought it was the 'Penguin & something...', or some such name.
Last time I was there was for Pendragon in 1986, it used to be a
great venue for all tastes, and was conveniently local for me.
If it has reopened, what as?

30.2 | ANGIES - R.I.P. | PUGH::MATT | Matt le Ratt | Wed Apr 06 1988 14:43 | 14 |
| Angies alias Pengiun and Vulture, has from what I hear closed its
doors forever to the sounds of music.
Tis a real shame, many a warm summer evening was spent listening
to groups such as 'The Magic Mushroom Band' et al.
Apparently Angies was closed due to the ammount of 'noise' created
by a) the music
b) people comming/going.
This may all be a load of c**p, but you know what its like getting
info through the grape vine, its not the most reliable of sources.
Why do they always close the good places to go ????

I sure miss the place - Ruthless Blues amongst best acts, and Little
Sister.

30.4 | Good while it lasted | MARVIN::HEALEY | Brendan Healey, WACE | Sat Apr 09 1988 16:21 | 9 |
| Angies was closed because the owner of the cantley house complex
Maurice Monk gives not a sh*t for others. He said to me 'I've got
ten bedrooms across the courtyard that make more money in a night
than angies ever did' (referring to an extension to the main hotel
building). The P&V had it uses for a while because it opened late
all the time (still has a nightclub license) but now it sticks to
normal licensing hours.

| Just in case anyone is interested....
Ex-Angies now Penguin and Vulture has for such a "nice" place been a
bit brave.....
They have live music.. don't expect RBlues, Nik Turner type thing it's
nothing like that but they do regularly have a "one man and his guitar
doing nice Elton John/Beatlesey type stuff" down there.
Nothing like it used to be at all but ok all the same some of the time.
<sniff>
memories of being dragged on stage time and time again for the
"audience participation" bit by Johnny Mars... funny really.. just
found an either 83 or 84 Gig guide for the place while sorting out some
old stuff last night... <sniff>
