4634.0. "netscape commerce mwait state" by CSC32::GLAUNER () Tue Apr 22 1997 13:28

    Alpha VMS 6.2,
    Netscape Commerce server.

    We have a customer that sees that his https_433.srv goes into
    a mwait state, at this point his web server no longer works.

    The customer thinks that maybe it goes into this state when they
    use a cgi script to process more than one page of forms. Customer
    has not yet verified this yet. All forms that our one page or
    less work fine.

    Does anyone know about Netscape Commerce going into mwait state?
    Is there a pointer to trouble shooting mwait state?

    Thanks

You sure its MWAIT? I saw a problem recently that occurred when a large amount
of form data was being POSTed, but that resulted in RWMBX processes.

What do you mean by "more than one page of forms"? Do you mean a form that
doesn't fit on a single screen?

Please try to find out approximately how much form data is being generated (how
big is the post data string that comes back encoded in the URL). Also, is the
CGI written in Perl, DCL, or is it an image?

4634.2patch needed for comerce serverCSC32::GLAUNERTue May 06 1997 12:3311
    Hello,
    The form data was over 1024 and I saw a patch for it in the elevations
    comet database. When you do a sho system the httpd is in rwast
    state, which is different than the call that inspired the patch.
    Also my customer is using commerce server not communications for
    which the patch is written. I need to get a patch for the commerce
    server for the same issue.

4634.4RWMBX state using NS Communications svr?CAMPY::wldhrn.mlo.dec.com::RogersWed May 07 1997 17:0420
We are seeing a problem similar to one alluded to by Colin in .1, I
think. We have C program attempting an fread operation against
"standard input" (stdin). This should result in the transfer of data
on the order of thousands of bytes. fread returns a failure. As
part of handling the failure, we return an error message through the
server. In the process of displaying the error message, the HTTPD_*
subprocess ends up in RWMBX state.

Particulars:

Alpha VMS 6.1
UCX 4.1 Eco 2
NS Communications Server 1.12

Any suggestions or pointers on how to proceed? Is there a patch
for the Communications server I should apply?

Thanks,

Steve Rogers
