4630.0. "Auto-monitor newsgroup responses?" by WOTVAX::HILTON (Save Water, drink beer) Mon Apr 21 1997 14:27

Is there any software out there that monitors Newsgroups and mails or
informs you of responses to certain topics?

I find if I enter a post into a newsgroup, I tend to forgot to check
it, or responses come back much later, when the news server has passed
it out of the default list of responses.

If you've missed the response you can generally backtrack it by looking for
your original message in http://www.dejanews.com .

There probably are news monitors, but I'm not aware of any particulars.

I use OUI (Offline Usenet Interface) from Peak to Peak Services (formerly
Dvorak Software), www.peaktopeak.com. It's a Windows application which I find
makes newsgroups much more convenient. One of the things it does is maintain
a "current reading list" (including messages you've posted) and it will
automatically download any followups to those threads and highlight newly
downloaded postings.
