4554.0. "Report on Microsoft Internet Server logfiles - how ?" by HLFS00::ERIC_S (Eric Sonneveld MCS - B.O. IS Holland) Wed Mar 19 1997 08:17

Can somebody point me to a program which is able to report on the
logfiles created by Microsoft Internet Server ?

The MS Internet server default logs accesses to
    winnt\system32\logfiles and creates files inYYMMDD

The content of the files is readable, but should be combined to give a
more valuable presentation, like access paterns over the day, sources
    of the clients.
The logging can also be setup to an SQLserver database, but still the
problem keeps: how to interpreted the data.

I can hardly imagine nobody did create something until now. Scanning
e.g. with Alta Vista however brings far too much to be able to find it.

My understanding is that IIS 3.0 includes a version of the Crystal Reports
report writer. I've no experience with it, and am unsure as to whether or not
it has "canned" reports.

On my server outside of Digital, I use Webtrends (www.webtrends.com). It costs
a couple hundred bucks (US retail), and is, frankly, a superb product.

Check it out, I'd appreciate another opinion.

	There's a freebie called go-iis (http://www.go-iis.com/). They
have a more comprehensive product which costs money.

    re: crystal reports

Crystal Reports works ok, it can be found on the IIS 3.0
download site. Make sure when you set up the report to switch
the database pointer from the demo to your logfile.

Re:.3

So there are canned reports in the CR module?

Also, go to:

for a quite up-to-date and comprehensive list of tools.

Re: .5

Yes, Crystal Reports includes several styles of canned reports.
So does MS Access. They also both include a graphical WYSIWYG-ish
report designer, if you need to customise the supplied report
templates.
