4546.0. "Overwrote my BookMark file" by MSOPW1::SHERWIN (Jim Sherwin) Fri Mar 14 1997 16:20

I recently over wrote my bookmark file while upgrading to Netscape
3.01; not deleted but overwrote, so the wastebasket is not an
alternative. I had thought I might be able to use my history file to
at least partly recreate the bookmark file. Though somewhat readable as
a text file with WordPad or NotePad, there is a considerable amount of
garbage characters which would make this tedious if not impractical.

I had all but given up when, through TipWorld (www.tipworld.com) I
    received the following tip

"You can find out where your browser has been in the past month by
typing <b>about:global</b> in the address book. The resulting page
may be saved by selecting File, Save As ...."

I cannot figure how to go about doing this. I can pull up my adress
book by Window, Address Book. It appears to be similar in structure to
the Book mark file. But how do I "typing <b>about:global</b> in the
    address book"?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Just open about:global as a location. That is, C-l about:global Return

Now only if "about:global" printed the results on the screen as HTTP links
(rather than text links), one could click on them and add the required links to
the bookmark file, the alternative would be to open each location individually
which needs more work.
This is better than trying to reconstruct through history file though.
4546.3Follow-up and further helpMSOPW1::SHERWINJim SherwinFri Apr 04 1997 10:369
I've been able to isolate a fair number of sites I had recently bookmarked
using the history file. I'll be able to add them manually.

I also want to import my old Mosaic bookmark file. I know I did so in
the past (when I was running Netscape 2.?) but I can't seem to Import
the file (when I'm running Netscape 3.0).

Any suggestions? Must I do something to the old MOSAIC.DEFAULT-HOTLIST
    file?

The file must be in HTML before it can be imported. This is real easy
to do...while in NCSA Mosaic call up the hotlist and mail it to
yourself. (From the Navigate pulldown menu select Hotlist. The NCSA
Mosaic Hotlist View window will appear. Select Mail To...)

Now in Netscape: From the Window pulldown menu select Bookmarks. The
Nextscape:Bookmarks window will appear. From the File pulldown menu
select Import and specify the HTML version of the Hotlist.

Please provide more details if you have already tried this and found it
    did not work.
