4533.0. "Site Code Search Ultility" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Chuck Noble) Tue Mar 11 1997 09:07

I have frequently used the Digital Site Code Search Utility,
which used to be at URL
  http://plugh.ibg.ljo.dec.com/cgi-bin/findloc
However I now get a message that my browser can no longer
find it.

Has this WEB site moved, or been discontinued?

Thanks,
Chuck

The DECnet Node locator is also there as:

They got moved when the AltaVista group went behind the Firewall.

Does not appear to work (nor does Findnode) - I get:
Missing field name in header line: www/cgi-bin/findloc[13]: awk: not
    	found

4533.4DECCXL::WIBECANThat's the way it is, in Engineering!Tue Mar 11 1997 13:5910
They work for me. Just a guess, but:

>> Missing field name in header line: www/cgi-bin/findloc[13]: awk: not
                                                       ^

Perhaps you are missing an uppercase F. The lowercase f fails. Note:

BTW, I believe I read somewhere else in this conference that
the WWW findloc tool (and some related tool) get their data from
databases maintained by Peter Bower and copied off SEND::

Do note that in the short-term future that we (ObjectBroker,
and hence the SEND:: cluster) will no longer be connected to
	the easynet. So plan accordingly.

Thanks for the warning. Do you know who maintains this database now?

well it doesn't work for me - but I expect it is a case problem with my
    browser.

I'm using IE 3.01 - the URL is entered with uppercase F, but the error
    message shows lowercase F.

Perhaps the owner of the cgi script could make it available with
lowercase F as well, so that us poor IE users can access it?

    thanks

I now own the code. It's a shell script. I can make a lowercase
version available (just make it a link). It works for me with IE 3.01
(Build 1216) on NT Alpha. I have no idea why you would see a lowercase
in the error message. What is the EXACT message. A cut and paste would
  be useful.

I just tried the URL's listed here.

I would guess the database it uses is at least 2 years out of date

That says it couldn't find awk. awk is not used in the shell script.
I don't know what else is going on. I guess I could rewrite the script.
Noone else is seeing the problem.

I location codes data is apparently maintained by hand. I agree about
that since the LJO site also shows up as a manufacturing site. I need to
find out who maintains the information in the corporation.

RE: .8

I'm the webmaster for midoff.bbp.dec.com
The info on this server is unsupported and hasn't been updated for ages.
It has to be manually copied from VTX and chopped about - if I get a free
day (fat chance) I'll try and do it.

I was told there was a supported web version of the VTX TEL site database
coming very soon - anyone have any more info on this?

I'd love to get the database behind the VTX SITES data. Then I could
get it into my own database and serve it up properly. The data in the
file I use is done by hand, so it's no big deal to change it.

There is a corporate SITES administrator whose name eludes me right now.
She's at MSO. I found it through VTX SITES, but ended up in the midst of
a bunch of commitees and politics. They theoretically can set up a feed,
but I never got anywhere trying to find out how or who to contact.

Could these be the various buildings behind MRO1? If so, I didn't know there

These are the Regulatory Engineering and Test buildings, including the
"Bubble", near the tennis courts in the rear parking lot of MRO. These
buildings are home to the Corporate Regulatory Domains, Engineering &
    Test group.
      CRDET includes:
    - The corporate domain mangers for EMC, Safety, Telecom and AC Power
    - EMC Engineering & Test ofices and test facilities.
    - Product Safety Engineering & Test offices and test lab.
    - Telecom Engineering & Test offices and test lab.

These test sites and engineers support the majority of the GMA
International regulatory product approvals such as FCC, UL, etc.

The FINDNODE utility has moved from SEND to HUMANE. I've also updated location
codes.
