4489.0. "AVSearch PX My Computer V1: indexes mail only" by MANM01::JOELJOSOL () Thu Feb 20 1997 00:39

    I've got an AltaVista SearchPX My Computer V1.0 from the Software
    Connectivity Symposium. All it indexes is my Exhcange mail. No
    matter how many times I configure for my documents or re-install
    it, it does not index my documents. And it indexes nothing if
    Exchange mail is taken out. Has anybody experienced this and found
    a fix?

All I can say is that it indexes a bunch of Word documents and text
files for me on my machine. I have no Exchange mail.

Did you check the list of file types that AV/SMCPE will look at (the
"File Types..." button on the "Documents" dialog)?

4489.2Have you rename "My Computer" to something else?OZROCK::THOMASForget the Rabbit, the Duck makes the show!Tue Feb 25 1997 00:049
There is a known bug in V1.0. If you rename "My Computer" to something else,
and the new name is exactly 2 bytes long, then documents will not be indexed
correctly.

The fix is to change the name to anything that isn't two bytes long.
