4435.0. "NS Nav Gold 3.01 w/ NT 4.0" by ALLVAX::UTZ () Fri Jan 31 1997 10:53

    I just set up a Celebris XL 5133 with NT 4.0. I've
got IE 3.01 installed and working. Netscape Nav Gold
3.01 installs fine, but it doesn't connect (internal
or external). I've got the proxies set up ok, but it
    can't seem to connect anywhere.

I'm using DHCP for my TCPIP address. Do I need to
install a service pack for NT 4.0 or is there a fix for
    Netscape?

    Thanks,
    James

Netscape Nav Gold 3.0 works fine on my Windows NT 4.0
machine. Does it display any kind of message when it
fails? Does it fail trying to access the proxy server
	or the destination server?

If it can't connect to the proxy server you may have
the proxy set incorrectly. Not having "dec.com" in the
"no proxy" box would cause that to apply to internal
	servers as well.
4435.2Netscape Forgets Settings (but still shown?)ALLVAX::UTZMon Feb 03 1997 15:2414

I've been able to do more trouble shooting now. It seems that
Netscape "forgets" the proxy settings every time it is started.
If I get it set up with no proxy for dec.com and all the
various proxy servers - it will work once. When I close
Netscape and open a new Netscape session nothing works. I first
have to go delete all the proxy settings and say 'OK'. Then I
can re-set them all again and it will work for that session only.

This is going to be a pain if I can't get it fixed...

    James,

I do also have a PC with NT 4.0 and Netscape Nav. Gold v3.01 and I
never have problems with my proxies. To me it is not a problem with
Netscape. The only difference between you and me is that I don't use
DHCP to get an address assigned, I'm using a fixed IP-address.

    Hi James and Guy,

I also have a PC running NT 4.0 (Service Pack 2) and Netscape Nav.
Gold 3.01, and use DHCP to provide my IP address. I have not seen
any of the problems you described, but I have frequently lost my
"bookmark.htm" file due to some internal corruption, which caused
Netscape Nav. to take a Dr. Watson dump.

This caused me to have to reenter the bookmark entries again and again
and again. I have tried versions 3.0 for both regular and Gold, and now
versions 3.01 for both regular and Gold, and the problem persists ...

I suspect the problem originates from NT 4.0, and _not_ from Netscape's
    Navigator.

    Hthy,

	Ron
