4177.2Java not supported?MPOS01::naiad.mpo.dec.com::mpos01::cerlingI'[email protected]Wed Feb 05 1997 15:169
I just installed this beta on my AlphaStation running NT 4.0 SP2.
When I try to run a Jave applet, I get the message:

Your browser does not support Java, or Java is disabled in your browser.

Is this normal, or have I not done something to set up IE?

tgc
4177.3Is it disabled?SMURF::PBECKPaul BeckWed Feb 05 1997 18:232
Did you check the options setup in your browser to see if Java was
disabled?

I've come across a significant problem with MSIS on alpha.

The browsers reports TRUE on the Test
<% Set OBJbrowser = Server.CreateObject("MSWC.BrowserType")
if OBJbrowser.ActiveXcontrols = "True" ...

However although this is true for some ActiveX controls, it's not true
for most, most are INTEL based only.

A classic case is the page
http://www.microsoft.com/iis

Where they are using Iconic Button and Menu controls.

Just a word of warning...

4177.5Everything that says 'Java' is checkedMPOS01::naiad.mpo.dec.com::mpos01::cerlingI'[email protected]Thu Feb 06 1997 10:008
On my IE property sheet under Security, I have checked Enable Java
Programs. Under Advanced, I have checked Enable Java JIT Compiler
and Enable Java Logging.

Is there anything else?

Is anybody getting IE 3.01 beta to work with Java?

I don't know that IE 3.01 on Alpha supports Java.

It appears that IE doesnot support java even though the UI has
the hooks for it, the DLL directory for java is empty. The Netscape
Navigator 3.01 does support Java (though not flawlessly...)

To clarify, the Alpha NT version of IE doesn't support
Java.

Although it doesn't support JAVA it does however support both VB and
Java script.

Just incase anyone was unsure

4177.12Must download Alpha NT Java support separatelyjammer.zko.dec.com::JackMarty JackWed Feb 19 1997 10:273
IE 3.01 _does_ support Java on Alpha NT, but not out of the box.
See

Interesting. You can only download the software if you are using
MSIE 3.01 to do the download. Most annoying.

4177.14Alpha still in beta?THEBAY::WIEGLEBVoracious schools of lottery girlsMon Mar 10 1997 15:0210
I just downloaded the Internet Explorer V3.01 for WNT/Alpha from
Microsoft. Although they don't say anywhere that it is a beta, that
seems to be the case. It shows as version "V3.0", build "4.70.1216".

Is this actually the most current? I'm kind of surprised that the
Alpha version of V3.01 is lagging the Intel version by so long.

Thanks,

1216 is the most current Intel build.

You haven't had your Alpha long, then?

That's the most current version. It's actually V3.01, but the About
page was never updated. I'm still waiting the 3.01b patches for Alpha to
fix the security holes discovered last week.
