I know this is an old note, but since I think I know the answer I'm dying to followup :-) I think that Serv-U tries to send a packet back to the authentication server and -does fail- because of the firewall. I think it then fails gracefully, and simply permits you to continue, whilst telling you permission has been granted. (When really it wasn't able to reach the server.) Please note I've been running Serv-U waaaay past the 30 day limit, so clearly it's -not- reaching the authentication server (or, of course, the authentication server is broken; but that's fairly unlikely).
