	Does the customer know SMS? Then they should be able to put together
	the job to copy the files and cause a reboot. That's really all that
	is required to install the client software. If they don't know SMS,
	it sounds like an opportunity to sell some services.
	However, you might want to encourage your customer to move to NT V4.0
	and NT Clusters V1.1, negating the need to install anything on the
	clients. Besides not having to install something on the clients which
	will later be uninstalled, they would get the other benefits of NT V4.0
	and NT Clusters V1.1.

|  |     Tcg,

    Thanks - I'll pass "the message" on to the customer who I, by the way,
    think knows SMS quite well.

    So, nothing at all to instal on clients with NT-Cluster 1.1/NT 4.0 -
    thats a much better idea! I'm only worried they have other SW on the
    server that does not support NT 4.0 yet.

    Thanks a lot!

| 857.3 | NT-Cluster v. 1.1, _no_ client SW req'd. Are you sure? | OSLLAV::BJARNEC_P | The last boat left without me ..... | Wed Jun 04 1997 07:06 | 15 |
|  |     Hi again,

    Just read reply .1 twice ....

    Is it _really_ no need at all for _any_ client software with Windows95
    clients when accessing cluster shares on WNT 4.0/Cluster v 1.1. My
    NT-Cluster distribution CD certainly has the kit for Cluster Clients
    v. 1.1 !!!

    Anyone care to comment?!?

    Thanks,

    	Bjarne :-)

| 857.4 | ..really | TYCHE::BOSTERS |  | Wed Jun 04 1997 07:29 | 9 |
| | There is REALLY NO NEED to have client soft on WIN95 clients as long as

    - the client has the TCP/IP stack and NETBIOS over TCP/IP (NETBT) available
    - you have enough IP addresses, as you need one for each failover group
    - you want to live with the MS redirector, the Cluster Client is a
      litte more "tolerant" in case of a failover (in my experience).

| | Dont forget the SP1 for the cluster server, otherwise
    there will be no IP-failover for Netbios (Fileshares).

    (The client SW is still needed if you are using named pipes
     for DB access)

| 857.6 | Which files and registry keys are added by 1.0 inst? | OSLLAV::BJARNEC_P | The last boat left without me ..... | Thu Jun 05 1997 06:19 | 15 |
|  |     Hi again,

    Thanks for all replies!

    I have spoken with the customer and he is now seriously considering the
    upgrade to v 4.0 / 1.1. It would still be interesting to know what
    files gets installed and what registry keys are added during the 1.0
    client installation - for the purpose of making up the SMS procedure
    for automatic client instal. The files installed by the application is
    fairly easy to check, but I'm not sure how to find all the registry
    keys ....

    Thanks - again,

    	Bjarne :-)
