856.0. "Connecting to cluster shares very slow / Win95 clients " by OSLLAV::BJARNEC_P (The last boat left without me .....) Wed Jun 04 1997 05:42

    Hi,

    Prioris Server 5166
    WNT 3.51 SP5(?)
    NT Cluster SP2
    Windows 95 clients (5-600)

A customer has reported a problem with slow logon when executing logon
scripts that make connections to cluster shares. The bits in the logon
scripts that connect clients to node shares, connect quickly and
constitute no performance problem. The result is that it takes
    "forever" to log on.

    Is this a known problem?

It does not seem to be linked to connection to any specific share (ref
note 768 and 16-bit VB application). Neither is it because everybody
tries to logon at the same time. So far they only run with a few test
    clients.

I'll try to get the customer to test a bit more tomorrow. Any specific
tests that would be particularly useful?

    Thanks,

    	Bjarne :-)

This should be fixed with SP3 of NT Clusters.

    Thanks Pjotrr!

Any idea of when to expect NT-Cluster SP3 for NT 3.51?

    Cheers,

V1.0 SP3 should be up today, as will V1.1 SP1.

856.41.0 SP3 = 1.1 SP1CHEFS::vfr750.reo.dec.com::harrisonbThu Jun 05 1997 04:477
It's out now.

It's otherwise known as SP1 for 1.1

Gee, I hope the two aren't exactly the same, otherwise DECWest would
not have submitted two separate files of significantly differing sizes.

856.6They are not the same.MSE1::MASTRANGELOThu Jun 05 1997 07:128

They are *not* the same. V1.0 SP3 is for NT V3.51 only. You do not
get IP failover with any flavor of Digital Clusters running on NT
V3.51. This means you don't get NetBT share failover either.
SP3 for V1.0 is primarily bug fixes.

V1.1 which runs on NT V4.0 gives you IP failover and dual SQL Servers.
V1.1 SP1 gives you NetBT share failover.
856.7client tuning parameters availableMSE1::PCOTEpress one now for personal nameThu Jun 05 1997 07:436
    The Digital Cluster's Administrator's Guide - Appendix A has
a section on Client Tuning Parameters (see page A-22)

And as previously mentioned, the most deseriable solution
is to upgrade the cluster servers to NT4.0-Sp1.
