Note: 850.0 Cluster Client on Hi-Note VP575 1 reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have recently had two laptop PC's installed, one by ourselves and one by CCS
with the workbench.
Both laptops are VP 575's with a Xircom "Credit Card Ethernet+Modem 33.6", part
no CEM33. On both machines, after
installing the cluster software we cannot see the cluster alias. The
configuration of netork protocols on the
laptops is idntical to the config on desktop machines which can see the alias.
Any ideas ?

850.3 | WINS? | MPOS01::naiad.mpo.dec.com::cerling | I'[email protected] | Tue Jun 03 1997 11:10 | 10 |

Do you have WINS defined on the laptops? If so, are the WINS servers
accessible by the laptops? I found in V1.0 (and the problem still
exists in V1.1), that if WINS is defined on the client, and the client
does not have access to the WINS server, things don't work right.
This generally happens when you have set things up for a demo where the
systems are tested in a working environment and then demoed off the
network.

| I've also seen that if you set your WINS server ip address to x.x.x.0
you will have problems too.
The abve address seemed to work with other clients but I'm sure this address
should be invalid for a node address.
