I installed clusters v1.1 on a dual 4100 configuration. I also put V3.0 of IIS server on each and set up a TCP/IP failover object. from a client I can connect to the IP failover object using netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer. This is what I expected. However, from another system running IIS V3.0 if I go to the pull down to "connect to another server" and I use the ip failover address it will not connect. If I specify the ip address of the actual system in the cluster that is running IIS at the time it will let me connect and manage it. is this expected results???? Dennis

No, that is not the expected result. At least it wasn't for me. But I just validated what you found. Looks like a bug to me, but I am not a qualified entomologist. tgc

I wonder what you're doing different from me? I can use the IIS service manager on my office machine to connect to a system running in our lab using the IP alias address just fine. Can you ping the IP alias address from the machine where the IIS manager connection fails?

Yes, I can access the other server with no problem. My configuration is: Cluster domain - TwinCities, MPLS is the PDC, STPL is the BDC. Other domain - MPO_SSUPP, node NAIAD All systems are Alphas. All are running NT4.0/SP2. Administrator accounts in two domains have different passwords. I did set up my cluster to have names different from what comes from the names in our DNS. So, I put the names in the HOSTS file on NAIAD. I can ping TCweb (floating IP) and MPLS and STPL. I do not have the client software installed on NAIAD. I can use IIS to connect to either STPL or 16.75.0.168 (STPL's IP address), but I get the error when trying to connect to either TCweb or 16.75.0.167. Interestingly, I went to another server in another domain and tried to access by STPL and received an Access Denied error. When I try to access by TCweb, I received an Unable to connect to target machine. Yet I am able to connect to NAIAD from this other server. I am really getting confused now. tgc |
