786.0. "Access to a Digital NTCluster from Win95 is slow" by BACHUS::LEEN (Jaak Leen, TP/IM Support Belgium 856-8738) Tue May 06 1997 02:58

We have a customer who is in the process of implementing a Digital NTCluster
and serveral Windows 95 clients.

After installing a few Windows 95 clients they noticed that the access to
the Cluster shares is very slow or sometimes not possible. When they notice
this 'problem' they thy to access the same share directly via the server share
and that gives the expected performance while the access to the cluster share
is still having problems.

When they can access the Cluster share, the explorer displays the directory
very jurky only a few lines, a long wait (30 seconds), then there are another
few lines or a timeout ...

They installed the netbui, tcpip and ipx protocols.

We noticed that most of the time the problem in .0 happens on one particular
directory where a 16Bit Visual Basic application uses an MS Access Database to
find some startup information.

we have a similar situation where the client for the most part freezes, but other win95 clients
get on. and all NT clients get on with no problems.

Any ideals on the problem(s) ??

786.3Not a problem with the Digital NT Cluster client softwareBACHUS::LEENJaak Leen, TP/IM Support Belgium 856-8738Mon May 12 1997 13:257
After some more testing, the customer came to the conclusion
that the problem he was seeing exists also when the
cluster alias was NOT used.
