Even though the Alpha XLs are not supported, that is what I run my
demo system on all the time. Works fine. (If I could get a pair of
supported systems, I would use them, but you know that cobbler's kids
don't get shoes; but they still try to sell them.)
Are you absolutely, positively sure that you followed the installation
instructions to the letter? Could you access the shared disk from
either system (with the other one powered off) before installing the
cluster software? If you couldn't access it before installing the
software, don't expect to be able to access it after installing the
software. Did you make sure you are using different SCSI ids for the
the two host systems?
The only time I have had problems with my system is when I tried to
short-cut some installation instructions.

I can see share disks in console. But why can't partition share disks on disk
administrator
when only one server power on run windows NT ? May be scsi bus is OK if can
see share disk on
disk administrator.I don't know whether NT's disk administrator just see
offline share disks if NT have

You will not be able to see the disks to do anything to them until
you define them in a failover group within the Cluster Administrator.
The part that had me confused about your installation was that in your
base note you say that you can't get the Administrator to run. It
should run fine even though one of the nodes is down. You will get
error messages informing you of that fact, but if you okay those
messages, the administrator starts. Because you are saying that you
can't get the administrator started, I am assuming that something
else is wrong in your system. Did you create the ClusterAdmin account
with Login as Service privileges and Domain Administration?

| Thank you help me !
I have created one account( ClusterAdmin ,it domain admini group member).
But get one error message when start cluster administrator :
" The Cfmd log path is not defined. Cfmd server detects that the Cfmd
server on the other nods is not available. In this case,it needs to log the
changes to a log file.but it does not know about the log path to write the
log path to write the log". Cluster four services are running when checked
services on control panel .Then Dr.Watson have error message:"An application
error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
ntcluster.exe"
cluster administrator can not start.
I am guess : May be have been both NT server wrote signatures to shared disks.
May be this action have damage disks's information or physical disks.

778.6 | Both nodes running? | NNTPD::"[email protected]" | Sven Nilsson | Fri May 02 1997 02:13 | 22 |
| Hello.
Have You rebooted BOTH nodes after cluster install?
Are BOTH nodes up and running?
Are the 4 Cluster services running on BOTH nodes?
(Check via control panel -> services)
ClusterAdmin account..Log in as a Service, on both nodes?
Your network working? Do the clusternodes see each other
on the network, connect shares on local drive..and so on?
Until You have managed to create Your first
failover group, you will not have any Cluster log disk,
that is why cluster must be running on both nodes in
order to do cluster management.
Your problem is NOT to do with signatures on drives.

| Hello!
First thank you give me point!
Have You rebooted BOTH nodes after cluster install?
sunwei: Yes
Are BOTH nodes up and running?
sunwei: Yes
Are the 4 Cluster services running on BOTH nodes?
(Check via control panel -> services)
sunwei: Yes
ClusterAdmin account..Log in as a Service, on both nodes?
sunwei: Yes,is log on as service of user rights.
Your network working? Do the clusternodes see each other
on the network, connect shares on local drive..and so on?
sunwei: Yes,One node can connect other node's CDROM drive
Until You have managed to create Your first
failover group, you will not have any Cluster log disk,
that is why cluster must be running on both nodes in
order to do cluster management.
Your problem is NOT to do with signatures on drives.
sunwei: I think may be is the problem. But how can rewrite and clear signatures
to
share disks? .I have been try to install windows NT server on one node and
not install cluster software and not boot other node ,then share disks still
Offline when start disk
administrator to see share disks. I think can not write signatures to share
disks.
Best Regards!

I doubt very much that it has to do with the signature. I have
created clusters where I defined the disks on a single node before
installing clusters - and then defining them across the cluster
after it was installed. And I have created clusters where I
installed the software before first accessing the shared disks.
What does the log file in \Program Files\Digital\Cluster contain?
