750.0. "Access denied - cluster service do not start" by NNTPD::"[email protected]" (Sven Nilsson) Thu Apr 17 1997 16:11

Hello.

After several successful NT cluster installations Im stuck.

NT Cluster 1.0 Intel installation. (Adding SP2 doesnt help).
Both systems installed as servers only. PDC outside of cluster.
One of the systems Cluster installation and start works OK all the time.
The other one Prioris XL 5133 DP constant let me down.

I have reinstalled NT 3.51 SP5 in new root, several times..:-(
I have recreated the ClusterAdmin account, Yes log in as a service..
I have ...the list would be too long..

The whole installation process works according to the books until
first reboot after cluster installed on both nodes.

In event log..Event ID 7000
The Cfmd Server service failed to start due to the following error
Access denied

The same message for the rest of the cluster services..
Access denied..

Problem syss sysdisk FAT later converted to NTFS, of course still
Access denied..

Trying servers local administrator account to manual start the services..
Access denied.

Pls Make med blush, what stupid thing have I missed?

Thanks in advance!/Sven

Use the domain administrator account. (not the local one on the
  server)

Cfmd access denied means that the cfmd does not have domain admin privleges.
Admin, domain admin, and login as service. You also need to be logged into
the clusteradmin account when you install the software. Use the join and search
option to join the good server.
750.3In the release notesMPOS01::naiad.mpo.dec.com::mpos01::cerlingI'[email protected]Fri Apr 18 1997 10:3613
I had this happen to me to, and I found the answer in the release
notes. Everything had been installed according to the book. With
version 1.0, this would happen sometimes. The release notes said
to go to Control Panel/Services and select the cfmd service (I did
this with all of them). Go to Startup. On that window you will
see that you have everything set up correctly. Instead of Cancelling
out of the window, click OKAY. (I must have cancelled out over a
dozen times; as my habit is to never hit OKAY if I haven't changed
anything.) Clicking OK toggled something and after that it worked
	fine.

750.4solved - create directory Program -> Access deniedNNTPD::"[email protected]"Sven NilssonMon Apr 21 1997 08:1230
Hello again.

Thanks for Your replies but this problem was a new one,
at least for me.
d:\Program Files\Digital\Cluster....
Normal installation everything works ok.

Create a directory in root called Program...
drive looks like this

d:\Program\other files....
d:\Program Files\Digital\Cluster....

Now You will get access denied trying to start cluster services..
Note
d:\Progra
d:\Programs
d:\Program Extrafiles
d:\Program Files\Digital\Cluster....
will work..It has to be a directory named Program

I my case the Program directory was already present when
I installed the NT cluster sw in the default Program Files
directory.

We will make PTR on this, any day..

Regards/Sven
