746.0. "Stale memory handles?" by MAIL1::DERISE () Thu Apr 17 1997 11:39
I just received a call from one of our resellers regarding an issue a
customer raised with him. I never heard of this problem and I can't
find a reference on TechNet either. Anyone out there know what this
is?
Allegedly there is a problem with the redirector in Windows NT WS,
which was referred to as "stale memory handles in SMB," which can/does
lead to connection time outs and consequently lost connections. Of
course, when this occurs the user is no longer able to save their work
and all work since the last successful save is lost.
This sounds like a problem I encountered with Word V7.0, where if you
had a document opened from a cluster file share and a failover occured,
Word would "go-out-to-lunch." I never saw a fix for this discussed
anywhere, unfortunately.
Has anyone in engineering heard of this? Is there a fix if it is a
real problem? Was there ever a fix released for Word?
