Hi, I have configured two AlphaServer 1000A with Raid 310 as an NT Cluster. Currently my AlphaServer is running NT 3.51 with service pack 5, NT Cluster V1.0 with SP 1 and HSZ20 firmware ver 2.7. Will that be a problem if I do not upgrade the controller to ver 3.0 ? What is the different between HSOF ver 3.0 and 2.7 ? I have tried to upgrade the firmware of the controller to v3.0 using the Raid Manager on the primary Server. I copy the image file V30Z.IMG on the hard disk of the primary server and select configuration => controller => load firmware. I select the image file V30Z.IMG and click OK. It starts downloading using kermit for an hour. After completion, I reboot the Raid 310 and the Server but the Raid Manager still show that the firmware of the controller as ver 2.7. Why does the firmware of the controller not updated as requested ? Secondly, I could not locate any option in the Raid Manager for rebuilt or reconstruction of failed disk. Any clues ? Thanks

You need to get a cluster upgrade kit from storage works. Firmware 2.7 does NOT work with clusters. The kit comes with the docs, class driver, raid manager, and firmware required. There are also configuration procedures. | |||||

Though the option exists in the GUI, this is NOT the supported procedure to upgrade the firmware. And you ask storageworks engineering as to why. Read note thread 615.* for more information. note 615.3 mentions the manual you'll need to perform the upgrade. |
