Anyone knows if Digital Personal WorkStations (PWS) 200i or 433a (Intel/Alpha) has been certified/tested on Digital NT Cluster ?? If NOT, anyone can tell if there is any plan ?? :> [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

I would doubt that any work has been done to 'certify' Digital Clusters on a workstation. The cluster software is considered a server-based product, so it has not be 'certified' on any workstation. The limited number of slots makes it a questionable solution, except for very small clusters. For a few more $$, a customer can move up to the 1000A systems and have a fully supported, very nice configuration. That being said, I have no doubts that it will work. (I provide no official statement on this, as I am only a slug in the field. But our engineers have developed a great product here!) I have demoed NT clusters many times. Not once has it been on a supported solution. But every cluster solution sale I have been involved in has been on a supported solution; primarily Prioris ZX and Alpha 4x00. tgc

Well... I agree with you that NT Cluster is primarily on servers instead of workstations. The main reason I ask for PWS is that its support ultrawide SCSI which doubled the SCSI-II performance. We'll try AS4000 if within customer's budget. :> [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

And you won't see that net performance gain until the entire scsi hardware chain supports that bus speed. which means raid controllers (hsz22, hsz70), disks, bus converters and adapters. All of which needs to be qualed prior to nt cluster support. |
