597.0. "NT Cluster questions from a (potential) customer " by NQOS01::nqsrv319.nqo.dec.com::Workbench (Inside Intel) Mon Feb 03 1997 20:07

When (if) you get sales reps in here, we probably need everything
immediately. I don't want to be the exception, so here goes:

I'm a sales rep for a large account, that shall remain anonymous to
anyone who doesn't read my p_name. I responded to a Request for
Information last week from my customer, after we were unsuccessful in an
NT Clusters bid ( know this is confusing). Fortunately, a group inside
the customer wants us to win, and is trying to go against IT's selection
(NCR/IBM). They/we are using our worldwide support ability as leverage
to have Digital selected for a major piece of their NT Server business.
Today the customer asked for a clarification on the following questions,
and since he is fighting an uphill battle for us, I hate to yell at him
for not giving me enough time. Any help I can get on this would be
appreciated. I'll be on a plane tomorrow, but will check both my voice
and email.

Due to internal politics at the customer, we are talking Intel servers to
be running NT Clusters, if that makes a difference.

The questions:

- What percent of ourNT support is using NT clusters? How many
installations is this?

- Three reference sites with contact names who are using Digital Clusters
for NT in a 24X365 environment.

- How many people are dedicated to NT support?

I apologize for the rushed nature of this, but I don't have a choice. I
can be reached by email at Bruce may@phx or swam1::may_br, or via
voicemail at 602-715-8784.

I was involved with a customer that evaluated clustering from
several vendors. On the IBM cluster they estimated that
failback time when using 1 TB of disk would be something like
    57 HOURS....

We dont't have that problem, and we use off the shelf standard
    hardware. (read cheaper)
